| A hard Sunday: rode over 600 miles from Weaverville, CA to Seattle, WA in one shot. Only 80 miles in the twisties with the rest on the superslab. Noticed that blowby increased greatly with continuous running at 80-85MPH (4500-5000 RPM) indicated by a small column of oil in the drain tube from the airbox (where there was none before) and a 100-150cc drop eye-balled at the dipstick. When the motor got hot at a workzone stoppage, she emitted a sickening clatter from the right valvetrain that i thought was going to leave me by the side of the road for sure, but with airflow restored, she carried me home without any further protest. On the day before, following Harry Paratestes example, found an extraordinary road from Garberville, CA to Zenia, CA. Desolate and very slow going with gravel and ruts everywhere but the vistas made you want to sing with Julie Andrews. Returning to speed on the twisties along CA 36 put a perfect cap on things. Fast sweepers are obviously the natural domain of the GRiSO but squirting from hairpin to hairpin on a wave of torque is just as satisfying and supports the slow-in-fast-out method to manage the risks of many blind corners. On another GRiSO!... Congrats, John! I was wondering where that black 1100 came from. You should have stopped by to show off the Rosso Trophy! Met up today with Steven (sono) a fairly new Ghetto member from Edmonds (north of Seattle). He came down here and bought my old tail rack that I'd decided not to mount on the Diavolo Nero, then we took a quick spin up to Snoqualmie Pass for a coffee and a slice of Pizza. Unfortunately, I forgot my phone and he didn't take any pictures, but you can use your imagination. He's got a sweet black 1100 that he managed to get a great deal on. Fun ride, looking forward to more of the same. Welcome, Steven. | Sorry you couldn't join me last week, Steve. I kept the inner squid firmly under control this time! Riding alone, a sort of throttle mania can take over pretty quick, so i kept just kept talking to myself.
Turnout was a understandably light for Thursday / Friday races at Sonoma and Ed Millich didn't run his Guzzis but many extraordinary bikes to stare at. Met Zack Courts from Motorcyclist magazine, a really sweet guy who is very fast on track. Bottom line: got to build that LeMans 3 into a vintage racer ASAP. The yearning almost hurts.

Yes, Pete. That's the first time i have heard that particular clatter. Sitting in traffic seems to be an achilles heel for GRiSO. For instance, when goosing it after extended idling, i get vicious knock that forces me to stay of the throttle. The bike basically doesn't "feel" right when hot.

| Took the wife out for a ride to Whidbey Island. Such a nice treat midweek to avoid all kinds of traffic! We never miss the opportunity for pie at Greenbank - OMG good. Can't believe we were the only bike on the ferry on the way back to Mukilteo. Oh, and got the tail rack from Street mounted... Looks good! | Nice job, Steven, and nice pics. I'm glad the rack went to a good GRiSO home. I mounted my Hepco & Becker side racks this afternoon. Now, I know we all agree that the bike looks better without them, but this is my favorite touring bike and in this case, function trumps form. Besides, I don't really mind the look, it just shows that the bike is meant to be ridden. | I have the same set up on mine, but have the rack for a top box as well. It's just a shame that you can't use the top box at the same time as the bags because the top box rack sits too low. | |

| Wyno, Too bad you're on the other side of the world from me, we could maybe have worked out a deal. I made some custom racks for my '07 1100 because at the time the H&B ones were back-ordered by several months and I didn't want to wait. Plus, I was able to make them fit around the Mistral high pipe and I designed them to sit lower and slightly more forward than the HB's. I didn't have a top box, but I did have a Guzzi tail rack and tail bag as well as another custom rack that I made to be able to strap camping gear over the rear pillion without it touching the seat or the bodywork. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I love the original exhaust on the Diavolo Nero 8V, but the racks I made for the 1100 won't fit around it. I decided not to use the tail rack as I didn't want to drill into the bodywork this time, and I wanted to try out the Givi tank bag with Onur's awesome tank ring. Ended up selling the tail rack to sono and my wife can use the tail bag on her V7. And the over-the-seat rack won't work without modification since it relied partially on the tail rack for mounting. All too complicated - with the new bike I'm keeping things a bit more stock. Just a few mods so far, fairing, tank bag and luggage racks and just a couple more on the to-do list: heated grips and a rear hugger or shock-sock. Keepin' it simpler this time around and loving the look of it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now that's a proper touring roadster! --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]“Danger + Survival = Fun.” - Neil Peart[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| Nice work Street. I think I'm going to have to cut the top part of the rack off add some bracing about 6 inches high and then re weld the rack back on that. It should work...maybe. | |

| Love my hard GIVI bags but since they don't make support to fit a GRiSO I had to modify the ones that came with it as they were made for a Honda 800. It came out great but it was time consuming in order to clear the signal and allow to run the stock pipe... | |

| Street, How would you compare the new Raider/Yamaha fairing's wind deflection compared to the Givi A770? | |

| The Yamaha Stryker is quite a bit lower, but does have a nice upward lip. As you can see, it's also wider. The Givi A770 and A750 were both probably slightly better at deflecting the wind a bit higher over the top of my head whereas the Stryker directs it lower. It's perfect up to 70mph and between 75 and 80mph I can feel more wind on my visor. But, there is no buffeting or harmonic vibration that I have experienced on other bikes with wider, flatter windscreens. And it is still hitting high enough that I don't have that feeling of the wind trying to pull my helmet off like I do with no fairing at all. This is all very subjective, of course and depends on your height and riding position. Your results may vary. You can see the height difference here, but in my opinion, the Stryker matches the GRiSO's figure a whole lot better and I think it works very well. I'm anxious to hear Beetle's review upon return from the Ghetto Australis. | Thanks Street, I have the A770 and like the style of it on the GRiSO. I also like the look of the Stryker, so good info. BTW I got no lift with a Schuberth full face before the fairing.

Of course it was the center of attention. Sorry to miss the BBQ this afternoon, but had kid duty! | C-Bow carriers and bags, Dart flyscreen fitted. Couldn't fit the front fender extender as it came with screws-no thanks-plastic pop rivets on order.
Next steps, new silencer and work out which are the best bars to fit.
