You're partially right about one thing. Radar detectors are illegal to own and use in NSW, Tas, Vic, NT, SA, ACT. They are legal to own, but illegal to use in Qld. They are legal to use in WA.
And, no, there's no radar detector attached to my GRiSO.

I may be wrong but from memory radar detectors are illegal in WA. Have been for a few years now.

They’re illegal everywhere in Oz. I’ve always found that the few people who do have th m fitted in their cars, where they can be hidden, are tiresome social inadequates who reckon they are a bit edgy. They are about as edgy as a neglected lawn.

You're both wrong. Radar DETECTORS are legal to use in WA. Any device that includes radar jammers, laser jammers or electronic scramblers are illegal. Speed camera detectors are illegal.

OK. I thought it was a federal mandate not state based. I stand corrected.

They are over rated in my experience. I bought the TPX2.0 radar detector made specifically for motorcycles and used it for about a year before taking it off and throwing it in a drawer. SOOO many false alerts that it became more of a distraction than a help.

R U interested in selling it? Please send me a PM if you are.
Many false alerts are received here too. I think the authorities install small Ka band transmitters in lieu of the real thing, as it would be a lot cheaper and achieve the same result (except for generating a speeding ticket).
Strangely, I'm noting that the fixed speed cameras appear to be disappearing or the authorities have got better at hiding them.

I put on 50000 miles a year for work. My escort has GPS, and alerts for red light and speed cameras. The radar, laser part of the device is not infallible, but its nice to know they are around. Lets just say I routinely exceed the limit. They are totally legal, land of the free.

You are all a bunch of scofflaws.
Just stay within the limits and no issues.
Virginia has banned those for years. I remember when traveling here from Georgia when I lived there and dutifully stopping at the Virginia state line and putting mine in the car's trunk.
Tho I'd have and use one if the risks weren't so high here, I also am somewhat sceptical about seems to me to be a symbiotic "arms race" of technology. I have heard -- code for "may not be true" -- that the same folks who make the detectors also sell traffic weapons to the LEO world, including radar detector detectors!

yes, Bill, nothing would surprise me about a company playing both sides against the middle. Kind of the world we live in.
On the other hand, I try to "go with the flow" when traveling. Nothing like sailing along at 85mph and getting passed by a soccer mom in a Yukon. Local traffic enforcement seems to be low or nothing at all. Now, having said that, some local jurisdictions near by have posted up 30mph zones and enforcement is strict. You will get a thank-you note. Mostly two lane through small towns, then back up to regular highway speed. This is just my opinion from riding around, to and from the heart land.

Nice video GB, shame about the lens. Sure would love to explore New Zealand on a GRiSO some day. My youngest son is over there now, in Westport, hanging out with some friends he's made. No telling where he'll end up, or when, he's been there for months already, trying to find himself I guess. I'm a little envious, really.

..... cant ride too far atm due to recent head and neck surgery, but did manage to clean the bike, fit a Dart and stick on some nice shiny red bling on the wheels. BTW, Michael and Pete did a great rollerisation, fixed my self made oil leak, fixed startus interuptus and probably fixed/replaced some other stuff that they routinely do. Thanks Michael and Pete.

I got a few things done on the GRiSO yesterday. Greased the swing arm and shock bearings and spooned on some new tires. Decided to go with the Michelin Road 5s. I changed the oil and filter last week so I am ready for spring!

I was coming home from work on Monday a week ago and just as I was turning on to the dirt road that leads to home (another 800 metres) the engine went bang and smoke poured out the exhaust. I switched the motor off and pushed it home and it is going in to the guys at the Motorcycle Shed to be looked at on Thursday week. On Wednesday (I only work Monday, Wednesday and Friday) I got up at 3 am to ride the pushie the 20 kilometres to work. I had done 7 and hit a piece of rubbish in the emergency lane that doubles as a bike lane, which I couldn't see because the light on the bike just wasn't good enough, and got a puncture. So I walked the other 13 kilometres in to work and got there just before the boss. A friend at work has loaned me his son's Honda 500 twin to ride until it gets fixed and my cousin has just loaned me his car as he is no longer allowed to drive. I fear that the news will not be good and will be very expensive. I will find out after Thursday week.

Should be a good, travel to the North Island over the next couple of days ready for the start on Friday.
Hopefully the GRiSO will do all I ask of it, till we get home safe and sound Next Tuesday.

Sounds like a valve problem. Maybe related to the guide that was replaced. I’d like to do the autopsy.

I would have preferred to bring it to you too Pete but I don't have the resources or any time off to do it, so I've had to take it to this group in Geelong. I definitely wasn't going to take it to Peter Stevens. I'm going to have to work out a payment plan with them if they'll do it.

I'm coming down to Melbourne soon. I could get #2 son who is in Melbourne now to pick it up and then I'll ferry it back up here. I know you are strapped for cash. Buy a cheap scooter to get by and let us fix it. We can work out a payment plan and I'll bet it will be cheaper than some mob who know fuck all about Guzzis and less about 8V's.

Thanks Pete, you're a bloody legend. I'd much rather you work on it, than someone I don't know. If it can be revived I'd be really chuffed as you know I prefer to ride than drive. Please let me know when your son can come down as I am free on Tuesdays and Thursdays and most weekends. I'm going to be getting a loan of my 92 year old cousin's car as he's had his license revoked, so I will be able to get around. It beats trying to ride 20 k into work on the push bike. Thanks again Pete, I owe you big time.
