| It has been discussed in the past as a way to get perfect tuning but using a wide band lambda or two. Theory versus practice. I guess we will have to wait until Mark enlightens us. | |

| Nothing wrong with a Power Corruptor if you know what you're doing and what to look for and are after the last nano-poofteenth of *Perfection*. I just really don't think it's worth it for us mere mortals and I find piggyback devices often result in all sorts of loom problems.
Biggest issue with them is that most of the people who use them just aim for a blanket AFR and don't pay any attention to the vagaries and differences of different engines and how they pump.

It will be used for map selection. I've wanted to do this for a while. It will basically select between "power" and "cruise" maps. In this scenario, the "power" map will be the one I've made for maximum torque. The "cruise" map will simply reduce fuel by a fixed percentage in the throttle/RPM range I choose for the transport sections. All I need to do is flick a switch (mounted to the bars), and *presto*, reduced fuel consumption. For proof-of-concept, I mounted a simple toggle switch to the brake reservoir support. All of which apply to me. In this case, not using it to look for perfection. If I wanted to do that via gizmo, I would simply use the wideband sensor to trim the map. That may yet happen. - Quote :

Should that happen, I will simply disconnect it. Takes all of 10 seconds. I am the FIG. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! .

| One of the reasons I like the 7SM is its ability to change maps for exactly the reasons you state.
While having a switch on the bars would be great for my purposes on the GRiSO it's an irrelevance, the bike in current form is as near to 'Perfect' for me as I need it to be and fuel economy is fine.
What I would like is a choice of 'economy' and 'grunt' maps on the Stelvio. A switch would be great but for my round Oz trip it would be great to have an 'economy' map for the really boring bits like the Nularbor and the shitty bits of the Pilbara and Qld/NT. For that I just take the laptop and reflash as we go.
The current map I'm using is wonderful but a bit thirsty. The one before was meaner with the gas but the bars vibrated and sent my poor little arthritic hands to sleep! When you're not being anal about the 1400 I might whinge at you about it but right now it's not a problem.

| It should come as no surprise to you that my fuel consumption is commensurate with increased engine capacity. Alas, tyre-shredding torque requires payment in kind. I always try to obey the laws of thermodynamics, and the 8V is not the most efficient of air pumps. I am also cursed with wideopenthrottleitis. This kludge will hopefully allow me to ride more than 160km before the fuel light comes on. Of course, it will require some semblance of control on my part. Plus, I will need to remember to flick the switch. Sorting the Turdio will be easy. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! . | |

| What a great thread drift. And, Pete (& Eric), congrats on the retirements, even if not your own yet. Eric's observation about the exponential growth of The List is, in my own experience, 100% accurate. Indeed, painfully so. Pete, you will have to retire yourself just to keep up with Jude and her new and constant companion, Ms. Good Idea Fairy. Best, Bill | |

| Had to go down to the coast on Boxing Day morning. 5 motorcycle cops & 6 patrol cars between Queenbeyan & Bungendore! 3 of the bikes zipped up behind me and sat on my arse till the next speed change zone, then when I didn’t break the limit they zoomed past at illegal speeds. Surprisingly the traffic wasn’t too bad and even at the legal speeds I was holding, The Ranga & I were connecting like never before. I had a hoot going down The Clyde and even more fun on the long windy run into Batemans Bay. It was even better heading back the next day and I’m finding myself finally comfortable throwing the bike around. The ghost of the little & light V7 is gone! Tomorrow I’ve got to go to Sydney for a NYE date with a young (at heart) lass. I went to do a pre-trip check over of the bike this morning. What’s all this oil all over the right hand side? Damn! It’d be a shame to have to stay home and drink this bottle of Ravensworth red on my own! So, off with the right hand cover. Shone the torch around and concluded that logically it has to be coming from the breather hose. Cleaned all the oil off but couldn’t see a split, although the hose felt rough at the back right next to the factory clamp. Stuff it - broke off the clamp, pulled off the hose and sure enough, there’s the split. Snipped off the damaged bit and re-attached with a new hose clamp.....and that’s my first repair job on this bike done! I hope the Sydney girl appreciates the effort....or at least the wine [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][url=https://servimg.com/view/19688143/45 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/url] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Craig, we have breather hoses for all the 8V's in stock. If one has shat the bed the others won't be far behind. If a hose has gone the shitty condom on the condenser box won't be far behind.
While the hoses are expensive they only need doing every five to ten years. The condom costs about five bux. Do them all and be done with it.

| For the last 8 years we go down to San Diego for Christmas with friends and head out to the Anza Borrego desert, rent a house and go riding. The backroads here are spectacular, thought I'd drop some pics. I hauled my GRiSO down...
