Naw, it was Thursday, actually. Had to go to Issaquah and just had an itch to take GRiSO out. Wish I'd had more time to make a proper ride out of it. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]“Danger + Survival = Fun.” - Neil Peart[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

| Well my mew Pazzo levers arrived but they're the non folding type, boo-hiss. Never mind, I'm still kicking myself for being a lazy tool.
Good news was digging through my spares I found a LH head protector, (The black plastic bit.) in a baggy I'd forgotten about so as soon as I swap the bar end that got scraped with one off the Stelvio, (I can hide the small scratches under the hand guard on the Turdio.) it'll be as good as sort of new-ish.
Could of been a lot worse really. (Grumble, curse.....)

| Balanced throttle bodies on Black Betty - slightly out, opened L/H air bleed a little to balance at idle. fiddled with CO trim - ended up back where it was at -6.
Brief ride - nice!
Also uploaded latest version of map for bottom end smoothness - very nice!

| Dropping a GRiSO (or any bike so equipped) will demo the difference better than any words. Seriously, having seen the "folding" type in action once made a believer outta me ... tho I keep forgetting to order some. Doh. Bill | |

| Yesterday I had the Emgo Venom and wiring for a Tom Tom put on the bike. The Venom looks good. I only had work from 7 to 9.30 this morning so I decided to go down the Great Ocean road. Not much traffic as school holidays are over and it's not the weekend. I only got stuck for short intervals behind slow cars, but for the last 5 km into Lorne a pile of cars and I were stuck behind 2 Harleys that couldn't cope with the curves. My dead granny could've run faster than they were going. The return trip was much better, I had a nearly clear run all the way back home. So I stretched the GRiSO's legs. | |

| NZ Distance Riders had their annual 1,000 mile in 24hr (1600km) ride, this year they also had the shorter 500 mile in 12 hrs (800Km) ride. My residual ride fitness is wanning so i did the 500 mile ride, [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Three of us made our way to Turangi the day before and took an AirBnB complete with Spa pool etc. Our families enjoyed the facilities while we rode. On Saturday, after scrutineering, we started off on my GRiSO, KTM1050 and yammy TDM 850. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The weather started out wet , after the first 100kms it fined up and the TDM died, right in the middle of some very tight roads. With no cell phone coverage, we left the bike parked on a bank and doubled my mate till we got cell phone coverage. Spent about an hour sorting things out with him and then left him waiting for his trailer. Turns out the counter sprocket nut came loose and stripped the thread. Two of us carried on and continued the trip. We had to do a bit of orienteering in the next 100ks. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]We then made our way to Te Kuiti and Pio Pio, where we gassed up 230kms and 14.25 litres. Then a short run to Awakino Pub and back to Turangi. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]From Turangi it was a return trip to Whanganui in the wet, cold and eventually in the dark. Trip took just shy of 10.5 hrs. My speedo has been adjusted to read correctly however the odometer is now slightly out. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And, finally home, still in the rain [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A bit of maintenance and an upgrade coming up, with another shakedown ride 1000k ride early Nov. | |

| I have no spousal supervision for a week or so, and that means I can ignore "Her Do List" … well, until about 48 hours out when I will engage in a panic fest! Naturally, that meant it was time to ride, especially as, except for yesterday, the weather here is wetter than fill-in-the-blank. Kinda like what MrGPz posted about above. Here was the not especially ambitious (only 100 or so miles, but all up, down, & around), but mighty fine plan. It included going to a UJM dealer in Romney, W.V., I had not been to and wanted to visit. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I put the plan into the tank-mounted “GPS” … [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]… which unfailingly got me to (uncrowded) Romney Cycles … [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Holy motorcycles, etc.! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Tho I was only really tempted -- OK, mebbe only fascinated -- by this: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Then, as proof of that old Army adage, “No plan survives first contact with the enemy,” here’s the route I ended up taking. Went more-or-less clockwise. The "new" route bears almost no resemblance to the original, but I had to meet a contractor back at the house and had to amend it. Was still almost late because, yes, no surprise, I got lost. That's not a bad thing. And, yes, I ran out of the waypoints that Google maps rationed me, thus the gap. I did make it home. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Along with some scenes along the way. In the first, while I knew where I was — thanks only to real GPS; my c/p did not work; W.V. is not Verizon-friendly — I had no clue ’til I got home and looked at Google maps how I had gotten there. In other words, a grand ride! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Right after taking that pic, along the Cacapon River on Cold Stream Road just north of Capon Bridge, a bee stung me on my chin inside my helmet and, yes, as I was well over in a deep curve! Expletives abounded. I rode on for a few miles and finally stopped at a roadside ice-cream place. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Even better than the ice cream — which I pushed onto my chin before eating! — was the sweetheart at the counter, who was a W.V. Mary Steenburgen doppelgänger but with red hair. Comely, funny, and sympathetic, she would have caused me to stay overlong to chat, but another customer showed up (darn it), so I continued home. I usually fly the Italian flag at the Moto Grappa, but, as we celebrate (eschewing the now-popular hair shirt and self-flagellation that denigrates him) Columbus Week, not merely the day, I put it out at the gate. Oh, it's also our anniversary , which also had me leaving the ice-cream shop early. Good thing sweet Kathi doesn’t lurk here! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]What a great beast that GRiSO is. I am embarrassed how I initially thought it a pig on the curvy back roads because it needs way more input than, e.g., the Norge. The pig was in the saddle and writing this story. I really enjoy how it wants me to tell it where to go rather than the reverse. One cannot merely be along for the ride on a GRiSO, but must flog it. I did yesterday and am still grinning. Best, Bill P.S. Pouring here now; sure glad I carpied the diem yesterday! | |

Thanks. Come visit during your unrideable season. Spare bedroom and Guzzi harem from which to choose await. Bring your bride, of course, too, though Kathi tends to take visiting wives to places that cost more than unobtanium GRiSO bits! Bill
