| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Managed to avoid a full-on collision today but ditched only striking the front tire and bumper cover of the offending car. The debatable crash-bar kept the engine from spewing oil! I limped home in second with a broken gear selector. I know there are many that don't want to hear it but.. Full gear saved me a world of pain! There is a big hole in the fore arm of my jacket. Once again my Vanson's literally saved my skin! | |

| Whew, catastrophe averted. | Glad you and the bike are okay! I know there's been a lot of debate about those engine guards, but in this case it looks like they did a good job. EXACTLY! Looks to have been a fairly significant impact. Even if you don't feel injured beyond what you report, do get a look from a medic. Just bought Helite "airbag" vests for Kathi and me to make the morning after a bit less painful, too. Best wishes, Bill | |

| Glad you're ok, and the GRiSO got you home. I always tell folks that ask me why I wear leathers, "they're cheaper then a skin graft". | |

| Sorry to hear H-E, but the 'debatables' did good. I pulled mine off, then crashed. It looks like the valve cover wasn't unscathed. Bill Thanks guys, the bike and I went down pretty hard but avoided immovable objects. My fingers are a little sore though I had on armored gloves. I didn't bump my head at all this time! The air bag vests look interesting but I hope you never need your new purchase Bill! | |

Not a mark on it prior. The crash bars are right against the cover but I think the damage to the cover happened as the bike came to rest against an asphalt curb. The real thing is it wasn't worn through as happened last time. I rode home with out getting covered in oil! | |

| Bill,
I look forward to a review (personally untested, hopefully) of the airbag vests. I did a bunch of research on those a couple of years ago after my rib/spleen-crushing crash in the Yukon, but was never quite able to take the financial leap. I also shun the idea of wearing even more gear than I already do, but I'm sure an inflatable vest could have saved me at least some of the damage to my internals. The other thing is that since we got Jellybean we've mostly traveled by sidecar and that tends not to fall over as easily.
As far as the high cost goes, a logical argument could be made that they're a lot cheaper than a week in the ICU in the same way the an Uber ride is a lot cheaper than a DUI, but still...

| Hanging out in Carmel Valley for a few days, so been blasting up and down Carmel Valley Road to Arroyo Seco (for you Bay area folks) and giving the GRiSO a work out. Road weaves in and out of the valley with a lot of different riding sections, but great visuals (and sticky tarmac) all the way. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |
