| After i got the damn oil filter to break loose on Friday evening, I topped the GRiSO up with oil and charged up the battery. Got to ride the GRiSO for the first time in months to the monthly Guzzi Breakfast meeting. Here's Jin (Fresh Egg) rolling up on his GRiSO: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here's Brock (Landman) and Pedro (Pedro...) awaiting a tasty breakfast. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Brock and I had just dropped off his GRiSO at Moto International where he was to get a "flat tappet inspection" and a replacement for a wonky dash unit... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]At only 41 years of age, Brock seems to be winning the battle of the beards... --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2012 MOTO GUZZI GRiSO 1200SE2013 MOTO GUZZI STELVIO 1200NTX - Orange Blossom Special | |

| Once you're at that point it's much easier to just drop the sump off. It's only 18 X 6mm bolts then yo can get at the filter baseplate with a cold chisel. | |

| Bugger ! I thought I couldn't take the sump off with the filter on ! Oh well !
Yeah the PO really torqued it on. Just welded up a tool to get to the holes in the baseplate.
The aim is to get to the sump spacer gasket. Any advice on taking off the spacer ? The side stand looks like it's mounted to the spacer ' that's obstructed by the LH exhaust header.....And so it goes.

| My GRiSO had to stay home as Esther and Jellybean and I rode together in Jelly's sidecar rig, but Steak went with us on his Diavolo Nero to check out Steven Ono's (sono on the Ghetto) new Poke restaurant in Edmonds, 20 miles north of Seattle. What a delicious treat! | [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Eventually took the sump off & got this mangled filter off. A simple step missed that created all the problems: the sealing gasket was clean & dry ! | |

| Horrible experience today: self-made lift-table collapsed under the weight of GRiSO. GRiSO fell sideways on a concrete block that had no good reason being there. Results: big dent in LH header, but even worse: LH manifold snapped straight off near hose. F*ck! How stupid can I be? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Ordered a new manifold. Anybody knows if it is a simple bolt-off and bolt-on repair? Or a bit more complicated? Let's hope not more internal damage is done...

| Is it the manifold itself that is smashed or just the rubber mangled? As for a header? I'm pretty sure I have several good ones. Find out what one would cost and halve it and add postage and it's yours.
Pete. | |

| It is the edge of the manifold which is inside the rubber hose, that came off the main part of the manifold: see red arrow in above picture. A new header is ridiculously expensive in this part of the woods: close to CA$ 500, so even if halved I prefer to live with the dent (as long as it doesn't have any major impact on engine performance...). But I really appreciate the offer, Pete!! | |

Ordered a new manifold. Anybody knows if it is a simple bolt-off and bolt-on repair? Or a bit more complicated? Let's hope not more internal damage is done... Ugh. I am so capable of doing that. Best wishes for a full recovery to GRiSO ... and your wallet and ego! Bill

Yes, good point. I was planning to do that. - paulbrice wrote:

I am almost too embarrassed to tell. OK: it was made of wood. A couple of 2x6 legs that held up a multiplex platform. The entire contraption was not badly done but for some reason 1 of the 2x6 pillars split so the bike then dived to 1 corner, and then bike + stand toppled. I think the screws must have split the wood. Anyway: will not use it again. I will save up for a proper quality lift-table - made from metal .
