| I bought this. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Not happy at paying premium prices for same spec oil. Inexpensive. Me likey. BTW the 8 valve engine sounded really smooth and silky with 10/40 P/s in it. I accept that F/s is a better grade of oil but do not see why I need 10/60 FFS this is Scotland not Ayres Rock or Arizona. I know the manufacturer can not spec temp ranges for every country but generally that is speccing up to the worst case. fat lot of good 10/60 would do you in the artic circle chris | |

| It's to do with the flash heating it endures. The VI rating isn't as important as the fact that it's a full ester synthetic. While the 8V is generally grossly over-cooled the cooling galleries around the exhaust valve seats and the under crown surfaces of the Pistons which are cooled by sprays are very, very hot and the oil is flash heated to very high temperatures. A mineral or semi synth won't cope with those conditions. Hence the full ester spec | |

I now realise from this and other oil related posts on here that this engine characteristic exposes differential temperatures that demand low viscosity and wide grading. Best Oil= Clean Oil. Will let you all know how I get on with this inexpensive oil when the engine has been pasted through Spain this October:)

| It doesn't demand low viscosity unless you live with the penguins & as Pete points out it isn't just about viscosity Index (aka wide grading).....it demands high temperature high viscosity (and low volatility), and high temperature thermal and oxidative stability: which translates to '60' grade; full synthetic & good quality deposit/wear specs (which the additive package provides on top of the base synthetic or mineral oil). | |

Not exactly, paid half that for my bike (the previous owner has taken the hit) 10 dollar oil you are bang on there and the value of your oil is about the same the difference is global marketing and sponsorship are not factored into my 10 60 FS:) Chris

| C kit installed yesterday. After 40,000 on my 09, 2sets of flat followers. 1 full rebuild.
GRiSO treats me meaner than my bondage mistress. I like it!

| I spent some time this morning replacing the rear & front indicator lights. These are the only part of the GRiSO that I have always found really ugly. The other items that tend to be replaced like the exhaust, mirrors and rear fender are a matter of opinion: some like them, others don't. But at least they seem to be the result of a particular design. The turn signal on the other hand appears to be a plastic, cheap, generic off-the-shelf item that was bolted on last-minute as an after-thought. Anyway: now my GRiSO looks sharp again! | A few hundred k's from home to Dwellingup, lunch at Blue Wren and back. Good fun though a little cold (for me, coz I'm a sook) so wired jacket put to good use . New Ago looks good, though maybe a little sharper tone at lower revs than the Termi I tried. Might be different with cat in - pipe proved a little painful to fit and left cat out for this first try. Will play a bit and see if I can get cat in and see if that makes any difference. Stumbles at 3k still there but tried my best to minimise time in that space on this ride... | Washed the 1200 ,but used a glove for cleaning car mag wheels. I used the glove to do the whole bike ( except seat which was covered by Aldi bags) rinsed and chamoised as usual. The glove looks like a gorilla mitt. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| I bought one of Onurs Givi tank rings. Which is the best givi bag for the GRiSO? missus likes the one with detachable tablet holder. bit concerned that the larger bags may obscure the instrumentation?
I am thinking 15 litre?

| Went to an outdoor hail & farewell (work) ticked off the Thruxton, GS and Harley guys because the GRiSO got all the love when the other riders and young female officers were looking over the bikes. One guy inparticular was bragging about how he bought his Thruxton in February and he already has 500 miles on it.. BAHHHAH. I did that last Saturday ;-) | |
