| Finally got 8v GRiSO back from dealer.. it should be ok now with rollers installed... well it took about 5 months to be repaired so i think they had enough time to make it right... sadly the weather is bad for riding next few months. Just have to wish it works when i take it out from garage at spring.. | |

| This sort of timeframe just boggles my mind! Even here, at the arse end of the earth, I can turn over a rollerisation in a maximum of six weeks and about four and a half weeks of that is waiting for our ridiculous customs and excise snails to clear the parts through customs. It's why I like to try and keep a kit on the shelf but having a grand's worth of parts just sitting there puts a big dent in the cash flow when you're a small biznizz.
Five months is a joke. | |

| Piaggio is a joke, and it flows on from there. Still I like most of their MG products - sigh.
Pat, going at a goodly clip I see. Good! AND your LCD is still working - magic happens.

| I changed all the fluids last weekend, for the first time myself. What a world of difference. Never imagined this would have such an impact. Gearbox and final drive oil were (supposedly) replaced about 16 months (about 12.000km) ago, but since this shop charged me for a lot of stuff it turned out they didn't do I'm not entirely sure.. Engine oil was replaced last May after the roller conversion. I replaced all 3. Old engine oil was already quite brown, but I did make about 7.000km's last summer. Refilling it through the dipstick hole was a mistake though, it literally took me like an hour to fill it that way. Next time I'll just remove a valve cover. Gearbox oil was watery as hell, and there was not so much in the bike, for sure less than the 500ml it should contain (I checked it during spring and it had the correct level then). Final drive oil was also a bit watery but not as much as the gearbox. I did notice all three drainplug magnets had collected a fair amount of very fine metal paste and some slightly bigger (say 0.3mm) metal particles. Normal wear and tear? Anyway after the fluid changes all the guzzi rattle-like noises from the engine are much more muffled, resulting in a smoother sounding engine. It really sounds much better, less as if I'm forcing/stressing the engine so to speak. Especially noticeable driving at highway speeds in the 3500-5000 RPM range or when revving high in lower gears. It also feels more responsive, and it feels like it accelerates with more power but that could just be psychological due to it sounding better. Shifting is also smoother with less audible clunks and far less (so far none really) miss-shifts where it hangs between gears. Shifting into first gear still makes the loud "clunk' sound but everything else is much smoother. The GRiSO really never has ran so nicely before. Very happy! On the downside the tank water drain is somehow clogged again | |

| Timothy, the brand/type of oil can make a difference in the transmission and cardan drive. I find mine can last for 20,000 + km and still look fine, with no metal flakes. The fact that yours was "watery" probably indicates the wrong oil and the oil not doing its job could cause wear. Mine now has 121,000 km and I see no wear and tear evidence in my transmission oils.

Unfortunately none of my funnels would fit due to the cylinder, except for the the very smallest with a rim diameter of 5cm or something. So yes almost an eye-dropper. Alas no pump and other fancy stuff available. - Oz1200Guzzi wrote:

What did you put in there? I'm not surprised, the clowns in that shop messed up in so many ways putting the wrong oil in wouldn't be above them. I put in Motul 4T 10w60 for the engine and Motul Gear 300 in the gearbox and transmission (75w90)

| Look, it's very simple.
You buy your oil in 4 or 5 litre containers and pay through the nose and then, if you can't grasp the idea of a flexible hose, sorry, but you're an idiot, you spend ages filling your engine with three litres of oil.
Alternative.
You buy your oil in a 20 litre drum effectively halving it's price and buy a cheap drum pump. This gives you five oil changes or years, (Depending on your regime.) and means your oil changes cost half as much and take five minutes.
There is no charge for this information.
Pete. | |

| Penrite discontinued the 10/70 so 10/60 it is. In all honesty the viscosity rating isn't that critical it's the full ester synthetic construction that gives it its ability to handle the xtreme heat that is important.
Although the 8V's generally run stupidly cool there are parts in the engine, the under piston sprays and the cooling circuit around the exhaust valves, that flash heat the oil to extreme temperatures. Mineral oils will break down quickly in such circumstances.

| Washed Bella yesterday, pimped my tyres Tony, & charged the battery too. Today I kept company with a couple of re motards, 160k ride up towards O'reilly's. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Keiran (on the left) was having his first ride back after being hit by a truck 10 weeks ago, breaking his left leg and doing ligament damage. It's been 6 months for me, worst trouble I had was getting my left glove on and off. All other aches and pains in check. |
