I have a GRiSO 1100, I've had it for nearly a year but I've been building and tuning hot-rodded old 2 valve Guzzis with carb's for 35 years and as well as the GRiSO have two '70s based Guzzi specials, an s3 based one with a 950 round barrel ex race bike motor on phm40s, and a t3 cali into which I recently fitted a V11 sport motor that I converted to fit the Tonti frame and fitted my old lm850 phf36 carbs to.
Both '70s bikes start and run beautifully and carburate perfectly.
I don't know how to do mapping and efi tuning.
I don't know if my GRiSO has ever been remapped, it has an open Zard silencer that sounds fantastic.
It starts and runs well, no rough running, BUT it doesn't not have the instant response of the carbed bikes.
When I crack open the throttle on either of the carbed bikes they just take off immediately whatever the road speed or revs, whereas the GRiSO has some 'lag', it is fast once going but seems to react slower as if the efi is 'thinking' about what to do, before making the motor do it.
Is that just poor mapping or inherent in efi no matter how well mapped?
If it is mapping I would have to get someone else to do it as that is a bit beyond me and I would hate to pay for that and then find it is still not as responsive as carbs, whereas converting to carbs and tuning the carbs is something I can do myself and do well (the v11 sport motor in my old cali if proof of that as incredible as it might seem, it carburates better than the GRiSO!)
So the question really boils down to; can the efi be made to respond as well as carbs or should I stick phm40s or even fcr41s on it?
Thanks in advance.
