Because the timing chest cover is a stressed member on GRiSO etc. CARC bikestgegasket is incompressible steel with a sealant coating that copes with any potential flexing.
If you have a look on V11 boards you will find many occasions of the earlier 'Cardboard' gaskets failing and blowing out.
Unless you want to repeat the task soon get the right one. There may also be shape differences but without looking I can't be certain.

Yup, exactly like that, or even the one I might have in stock.
Having said that I may of sold my last one last week so perhaps I'm being bitchy....

Installed ABM superbike bars. I already fit risers but wanted a little less height but more pullback than the stock bars. Just need some bar ends next:

I wish I'd been on my GRiSO today. Esther and I are in Flagstaff, AZ tonight, alas, travelling by cage, gradually making our way to the coast to visit an old grad school pal in Calistoga in the NAPA Valley on Saturday after installing my latest project in Sugar Land, TX on Monday.
Today we drove one of the most beautiful stretches of road, US 180 from Deming, NM through Silver City and both the Gila and Apache National Forests. For a few hours, I blissfully daydreamed of riding my GRiSO along that curvy, pristine strip of asphalt with my old Guzzi crew, missing Steve something fierce and reminiscing on all the incredible miles we traveled together. Pictures don't do it justice, but look it up on a map and you'll see what I mean.
Later on, we happened upon another stretch of the old and infamous Route 66, a mostly obsolete highway that occasionally pops up when traversing the American Southwest, connecting various sections of State and County roads with the Interstate highway system. Had I known this place existed, I may not have chosen Flagstaff as today's final destination.

I believe the Wigwam Motel was part of a chain of motels across the USA. There's another in Cave City, Kentucky.

Very little time on the bike last week. Took my GF camping this weekend...so no bike time then either. Got home, unloaded, cooler clean, laundry started. Checked the watch, looked at the sky....yep, just enough time to get motor warm. Thought I caught a nice image as well. 15 sec before I snapped this there was a bevy of deer in that field near the treeline. hoped they'd stay, but they didn't like me getting off the bike. if you're on a desk top, hit the 'click to see full size' option. opens up nicely.

Very nice, the pearly white is striking.
Personally, I feel better when there are no deer around.

Ratso and I got out on what was a National Holiday here in the US. Labor Day. Temps in the 90's. Ratso rode the Mighty Scura, as his GRiSO has a finicky oil sensor and is throwing a code. What was gonna be a morning run turned into an all day affair. 254 Miles (409KM) a few too many on ball bearing gravel. Saw whats reported to be one of the largest railroad trestles in the world. Built in 1906 by Italian immigrants. We tried to honor them by resting our Guzzi's in the shade. Only black mark was that the Scura picked up a nail near the end, and what should have been the final 45 minute slab sprint turned into a 90 minute commute on surface streets in holiday traffic.
Photo with the train was stolen from the web for reference.

Only stopped for a pint in Story. Fiddled with the Nav App to get the next stop inserted. The trestle is near Solosberry Indiana, comes up as Tulip Trestle on your Google machine.
I received the tip from a fellow at the Ohio Rally. Also the general store.

The flat was a bummer but could've been much worse. I was able to nurse it home so no tow truck involved this time.
All in all, a good riding weekend.

Nice. Did you have lunch in Story? We were there a couple years ago. and the basement bar didn't open until 2:00 for lunch.
Where's that train trestle? I may need to go inspect it.
Probably stop at the Story Inn 3-4 times a year. Have never eaten there. Just refreshments, restroom, and photos.
Known locally as 'the viaduct', AKA the Tulip Trestle, in Tulip Indiana

Well, looks are deceiving in this case.
The Mighty Scura parks next to the Lucky GRiSO most any day of the week. I'm sure they swap stories in the evenings of what a knob the owner is for thrashing them so.

Today I bought some oils and a filter, ready for service time at the weekend. Got a great deal on the oil from Westway Lubricants here in the UK. I collected, so got some discount. I paid just £29.99 for both oils, so very pleased with that!

Well, as discussed with my mate Nobleswood who also has a V11, this past weekend. Both do the same thing, just differently. Different dance partners.
The Mighty Scura feels a little lighter on the inputs, definitely more hard edged. The GRiSO feels like it has a little more grunt coming off the corners, ever so slightly more refined.
A two hundred mile day running around the back roads leaves me with the same big fat grin.

Got my first "50" in... Nearly every mile a spirited one! Other than routine maintenance, replaced two headlight bulbs and repaired broke exhaust stud. Thats it. Has been a peach! Most reliable new bike (and 1st new goose) ever purchased out of 5 bikes. Totally smitten! Here's to the next 50 !! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Steve, your "new bike Dealer prep", first service, and Beetle map install have been contributing factors I'm sure! Thanks! As of note, I did a new Alternator belt at 50k, old one looked like new.
