How did you like the V100 - especially in comparison to the mighty GRiSO 8v?

The short answer - I love it.
It fits me better than the GRiSO, more legroom even using Knight's pegs on the Tenni. Without a doubt, the V100 is still a Guzzi , with a very similar feel in some ways, but improved in others. Handles better as it feels almost as stable as the GRiSO, but more nimble. Has all the modern updates (that many diehards claim too hate, but have never tried ) that do make riding even more enjoyable.
Of course, the downside to that is it looks less user friendly for maintenance. Simple things like oil changes and valve CHECKS aren't bad, but I might be buying a service manual, while I never really NEEDED one for the GRiSO.

So you are long-legged such as me I had my seat redone to gain some legroom, but my knees still have nothing to grip to. At first I thought the GRiSO handled like a freight-train, until I found out how nimble that 1/4 ton is while still becoming more and more stable the faster you ride. My 1100 is a deliberate step back in time/technology and as long as I don´t win the lottery AND Guzzi brings out a V100-based GRiSO successor I will very likely keep my flying brick.

6'2", with a 34" inseam.
MG does offer different seats for the V100, but they only offer them in black. The Verde S version comes with the brown seat, so those of us with that one get shorted a bit.
While I am fairly comfortable on the stock V100 seat, I'd like to try the tall (and heated) seat, so I might have see about a brown cover somewhere.

First ride this afternoon since November 2022. NICE! Still a bit of dried salt on the roadways from the last snowstorm 10 days ago, but being 60 degrees out, I couldn't wait. Fired right up. Only lost about 6 lbs pressure in the tires over the winter. Still running like a Top. Feels Good to be back on 2 wheels again. Still diggin this machine after all these years. No need to get another bar hopper at this time.

Today I looked at my bike, with a twinkle in my eye. And posted a camping video trip on my GRiSO to the youtube. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Decided to change the Stelvio shock I bought some months ago, as well as give the swingarm new bearings.
Taking it apart went well, but since I don't have the special tool to remove the castle nut, I had to improvise a bit there. Could be a problem when reassembling it, since I guess it should be torqued. I'll have to make myself a new tool...
Does anyone know the torque of the swingarm spindle and the castle nut?
The bolt fixing the shock linkage to the swingarm didn't come out, so I had to loosen the one below instead. Have to find out why it's stuck tomorrow and get it loose. Might be some damaged bearings there...
I left the drive shaft in. But if I wanted to take it out, how would I do it? It doesn't slide off just like that...
So, to my pleasant surprise, I found that the swingarm bearings were already greased and in good condition. So I'll clean and re-gease them, and leave them where they are [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Bjor the spindle is done up tight into the fork to provide a rigid pivoting assembly (Fork bolt to fork retainer 60 Nm). the 'castle nut' only tightens against the 2 taper roller swing arm bearings so Guzzi call it a "Preloading bushing" and it must not be too tight - just a preload tension. the manual (page CHAR 17) states "Preloading bushing to fork bolt retainer 10 Nm"
Excellent to hear that the PO had greased the bearings - that is a good sign for th erest of the bike

Thanks Jon Is it 60 Nm clean and dry or lubricated? I was thinking to lubricate everything but the threads, may be that's wrong?
Actually the PO didn't grease it, must have been done by the first owner. But, yes, it's a good sign and the bike seems to be in very well maintained condition

Not sure what to do with this bolt that's stuck. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The linkage unit rotates freely around it and does not seem to have any play, at least very little. Have sprayed it with 5-56 to se if it comes loose, but not really. I will eventually have to drive it out. If so, I would most likely damage the bearings, which actually are working fine, and I would have to order and wait for new ones to arrive... However, if I don't, I can't re-grease them and they might not last so long. Anyone with experience here?

You'll probably have to press it out and the bearings are almost certainly shot. There is a top hat bush in the swingarm with the 'Brim' of the hat between the double con rod and the swingarm. Chances are it will be seized in too. I'd bank on needing a new bolt, top hat bush and some bearings.

Low risk of damage if driving the bolt out. Bolt is inhex head, and it is only dirt and grime holding it back... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Same principle for all bushings. Needles might fall out. RC Components or S Dinze for parts.

Bjor, check the price of parts before you refurbish. You need bearings, bearing sleeves and side seals.
When i did mine the parts added up to a higher price than new links.

I have a feeling it could be the bolt itself and the top hat bush that are stuck, since the link is moving smoothly around the bolt/distance piece/bearings. Should I heat it up before trying to press/knock it out?

You're right, but the rest of the components seem to be ok. I have cleaned them and will grease them and make a test before i decide. Thanks

Hope you're right Svein. I'm always a little sceptical when it comes to steel bolts in aluminium though...
Now I almost have to try to get it out, just to find out what is causing the problem

Took the first of 3 cornering classes with a European ex-pro. Run on a cart track with all sorts; Pan-Americas to Panigales. Managed to learn some things; he started off with some Jonathan Livingston Seagull narrative before much physics, but I’ll commit to another two I think.. PROBLEM SOLVED. Soaked the bolt and the top hat bush in 5-56 for some hours, tried to rock the bolt back and forth with tiny moves, and in the end it became looser. Put the nut back on the tip of the bolt, nocked it with a hammer and it came out. The culprit was rust on the long head of the bolt. Is now removed and will be lubed before beeing installed again.
All parts look good and can be re-used, after a good clean and some grease.
Thanks for good advice everyone!

Launched a buzzard yesterday.........
went out for a nice ride. As I exited a corner going 60-70mph, there was a full grown buzzard enjoying some road kill. They usually get out of the way, but this one was so awestruck by the beauty of my oncoming GRiSO, that he didn't start to fly until the last second - which was too late. with a loud CRACK, he was launched 30-40 feet across the road and into the trees![You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
does anyone have a spare fender?
a new fender is $385 at AF1 with a 6-8 week lead time, does anyone have a spare fender for sale? I managed to find the broken pieces, so I'm going to attempt to join them back together, any tips?

Hah! Been there done that. Last September in Kentucky during a Guzzi Rally. On a G5 however, not a GRiSO.
Nerve rattling. All things considered it ended well for you! Good luck with the fender search.

They are still available but I'm not sure if they're still available in black. Not cheap but I'd snap one up while you can.
