Hmmm. GRiSO Gathering next year? I admit, I cheated and trailered there. That way, after a day of fun and frivolity, we had a door slammer to ride to supper. And there are some pretty good eateries in and around Marietta.

The Ohio MG Rally on the Labor Day weekend was normally my couple of days to get my Marietta fix. This year, because of family commitments, has meant I have had to cut way back on my riding, but there is always next year

I think 145 is the default upper limit the dash will read. When really 'making haste' wheel slip and suspension chatter will confuse the sensor input and it just defaults to it's maximum. I seem to remember if you switch the dash to Km it tops out at 247 or something similar.
It makes no odds, as anybody who has pinned their GRiSO knows things get pretty squirrelly once you're over 200kph. Especially on stock suspension.

The rain cleared last night and this morning was crisp and cold. Late morning and I couldn't resist the temptation and went out for a gallop out the back of Canberra and down Mountain View Rd to Yass.
A couple of things I learnt, or re-learnt. 1.) I fucking hate the Metzlers on the Tenni shitter. I can't wait for them to wear out. 2.) Coupled with the forks which really need some work they nearly did for me twice on Mountain View. I managed to loose the front end over a series of ripples in one corner but luckily the tyre bit again and I managed to wobble around the bend, albeit on the wrong side of the road and the fork valving is so crude and unforgiving that any big whoopsie, (Of which there are lots due to the rain!) causes the front wheel to try to loose traction or, in extreme cases, grab air so you have NFI where the hell you're going! Thank dog for slow steering and a huge wheelbase! I think I may of overtaxed the fork seals too. At least that will give me the excuse to get Laurie to work his magic with them. I need to wind off a bit of preload on the Hyperpro at the back too.
So! A nice ride. Apart from the soiled underpants!

Pete, when you get Laurie to work over the forks can you record what valving, what shim stack he installs
There are a number of threads detailing shim stacks & that information would add to that base, specifically illustrating what you would want for a fast rider on subpar roads who is not 160 Ibs

I can ask but within the trade picking other people's brains for their specialist knowledge is generally seen as a bit gauche.

Beautiful spring like day, and it won’t last, so just had to take the bike out. Couldn’t roam far as I was expecting to be called into work at anytime, so I just cruised up & down the hills around town. I don’t normally just cruise around. Usually either commuting or out of town a ‘higher’ speeds. But it was very enjoyable today doddling along in the sun.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Click over 180000km today, the bike still going ok, not perfect, but not terrible. Plenty more to love than the dislike, its the quirks of a Guzzi

If you haven't yet done it it'll be needing a timing chain soon. We've given several 1200-2V's a big freshen up at 200,000km and they really wear well. Chassis bearings are just about the hardest worked parts. Be prepared to replace them. Unfortunately rings are NLA but I'm trying to find a source for them in the aftermarket.

Only work done on the bike over the years, is the recent work around the rear end. Â And nil anything to the engine and gearbox themselves. Have replace front wheel bearings, the steering still original.
Timing chain a hard one? Will have to do a google and prepare myself then.

Nah, not really. Talk has to come off and the alternator has to be unhooked but then it's just open the timing chest, remove the chain and sprockets, replace the chain and reassemble. Even for a novice it is at most a weekends worth.
The thing is if you leave it too long you'll hook the sprocket teeth and they are spendy! The chain is cheap and I believe you can now get a Valtek 'Blade' type tensioner for the late engines that is far superior to the 'Flappy Foot' tensioner used by the factory. They're cheep too!
There are a handful of O-rings and the timing chest gasket but it's neither an expensive or difficult job.

First time for me, changing the engine, Carc, gearbox oils, and filters today. Wiped the inside of the airbox; some oil, but not a proper puddle. I still think the dipstick is ridiculous. I had new washers, but didn’t use them. Why am I so cheap?[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Good, easy way to save money and to develop a feel for where your bike is at. Next step is doing your own tappets.
