Well it's winter. That means it's time to tackle those boring jobs you put off when the weather is better.
Now it's been a few years since I put the new motor in the Green Horror so it's probably time to re-grease the swingarm linkages and shock bearings. Now since I'm doing that I think it's about time I investigated the clutch. My motive unit is a 2012 and is slap bang in the middle of the time they had a batch of dodgy clutch plates. Now mine 'Groans' sometimes but hasn't given any other problems but for peace of mind I think I might just put the extra time in and pull the gearbox and swap the plate.
Now I was ordering up some parts from Europe this morning and decided to have a quick trawl through the second hand munt they have and well I never! There's a low mileage 1200 Sport 8V gearbox for €400. OOPS! It just fell into my order basket! What a shame. Now I'll have to install it on the Green Horror. I've always liked the taller gearing on the Sports, not that there is anything *Wrong* with the stock gearing but the cost of swapping out the primaries and the time involved always meant I basically couldn't be arsed. The Sport box is not a lot more than the input shaft new!
Now I've got the second GRiSO as well it means that I'll still have one with stock gearing too. Lucky me!
Mark can expect a whining email soon asking for a map with an altered speedo correction factor, although even I might be able to handle that!
On the written off munter? Well it's still got stock suspension as far as I know so I'm going to have to get a few more coins in the piggybank for some proper suspension for it as well. The Showas I'll just re-spring and re-valve. The Sachs shock will get the floatation test. I think I might try a Mupo on the back this time.

Got back from the NC500 A route around the north part of the scottish highlands. 1,900 miles and Snafu (my GRiSO) was fast, comfortable and reliable - really very well behaved This is us at John o Groats [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And this is a dirty Snafu 1000 miles later in South Wales just before getting home [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
A brilliant week

Beautiful Autumn day down under (outer Sydney region). Stopped for a quick break somewhere along the Hawkesbury River. Managed about 250ks through wine and river country today. Superb. Looking forward to receiving my new risers from FBF. Hopefully will make long rides a bit more comfortable. Cheers everyone:) Charles [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

After having been unexpectedly being called into work yesterday morning, and then again in the evening, I needed a ride to clear my head and pretend that I was having a weekend.
So with the temperature bumping 0DegC I rugged up shortly after dawn and rode out through Bungendore and Tarago to Wakefield Park Raceway for the annual Bike Swap Meet.
I did keep my eye out for anything Guzzi, and did imagine stopping in Bungendore on the way home brandishing in triumph a GRiSO pretzel for Pete's wreck. All to no avail. The only thing Guzzi was a white 1986 Lemans IV with 75000km priced at $10.5K. Pretty, but not for me today.
Although not needing any of the multitude of parts I enjoyed poking around the stalls. T'was a balmy 11DegC ride home afterwards.

They're talking about the mid week possibly of snow on the ranges all the way to the Qld border. I'll still be riding to work then as my oldest got his driving licence while I was away for The Budgie, took my car and I'm yet to get it back

I and a few mates are dragging my outfit over to Bathurst for sidecar certification on Tuesday. Snow is forecast for Black Springs and Oberon, (Oberon is known as 'Snowberon' for a reason!). I did consider riding...... for about 3/10'ths of a second! In summer the whole continent can be sweltering in 40*c temperatures and the whole South East can be ablaze! You can go to Oberon and everybody will be wearing ski jackets because it's fucking snowing!
Imagine what it's like mid winter! Lots of the lighter gasses freeze in Oberon in winter......!
