Lithium battery regulator ?

There has been some question as to whether the regulator needs changing if installing a lithium ion battery
I can't see this being the case and see that it is a commonplace upgrade on Grisos
But I wondered if any of the experts have a view on the issue.

I changed to a lithium ion battery a month or so ago. It's been a wet windy drawn out Winter here and my conventional battery
just wouldn't hold enough charge to kick over the GRiSO.

It doesn't make sense to me that a replacement battery would be marketed that required major changes to the charging system
but saw a video on U tube that said it was the case.
