Tank rust on a 2016 SE

Hi , I did a search but no topics. I was looking at my tank and it sorta looks like there’s a section either side near seat where it forms a narrow tube like piece. Haven’t looked very hard to see if it’s part of tank where fuel hangs out.
Just wondering what the incidence of rusty tanks is on these bikes and is it worth thinking about sealing it inside. Previous (Japanese) bike had a tank rust through on me.
Or are there some maintenance ideas that keep the water out or chuck a cup of metho in to take up the water??

Plastic tank.

Plastic tank. One common problem is that the nipple from the filler gutter clogs up so you get water in the tank. While the tank won't rust out you can end up with substantial water in the bottom of the tank and this can rust out the spring on the pressure regulator valve so it's a good idea to unblock the nipple from time to time.

Oh, and I'd advise against metho in the tank given the effects ethanol in US petrol seems to have on the plastic of the tanks.

Ok so is the tank plastic? I thought Bob was taking the piss. The painted top bit that the cap appears to be fastened too is only a metal cover? Or is that the tank?

The filler cap has a machined alloy surround. Both cap and surround bolt to the plastic tank.
