| Is the quality of some of the bits on the GRiSO that poor, or is my proximity to the ocean to blame?

| I too am lucky to live near the ocean, and this is one of the prices we pay. Salt air is a bastard on metal. But I have found a couple ways to fight back: 1. Spray this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on a rag and give your rusty bits a good rub. It has rust inhibitors that penetrate and work quite well. 2. Avoid riding near the water on days with heavy surf. If you must, give the bike a good wash before you put it away. | |

| Salt water/air corrosion for sure, I love the beach but LBC Tenni is correct, it 's a price you pay. You could live in SW Arizona like me where the air is so dry static electric charges can knock you on your ass or your nose will bleed for no reason. But all of my GRiSO's metal parts are shiny! | |

| I live at the top of Virginia, just south of where Va., W.V., Md., and Pa., come together. No salt air, and for distinct seasons. Winter humidity in the 40%; summer, 90%+. Except when on the road, my Guzzis are "indoor pets," so I find almost zero rust, but treat any rare "suspicious activity" quickly with various products. So, I think it is your salt air doing nasty work. OTOH, a gin & tonic on the lanai in the afternoon just tastes better somehow in Florida. Bill | |

| Yup, when I go stay at the beach house I make sure I hit the old bus with the steam cleaner when I come back! With the mirrors the best answer is to piss 'em off and get 1200 Sport/SE mirrors. Not only will they not rust but they are about a quintillion times better n terms of quality and performance than the stock chromed horrors. Not a great pic but here they are on the 'Green Horror'. | I have a similar issue with rust/corrosion in my brake/clutch lines. Doesnt affection function, but it looks fugly. Was debating picking up some SS lines from Spiegler or something. | |

| I lived in Dover, De for two years and everything that was made of steel, rusted. When it rained, the streets foamed from all the salt in the air and on the ground. So, I agree others here, it's the price you pay for living near the ocean. | |

Pete SE mirrors look good but I prefer an original look. My mirror stalks are the issue, not the mirror heads. The rust is removable with some work, but I'm not inclined to polish much. I even have pock marks on the lower reaches of the forks that aren't in the fender shadow. Forks don't compress that far so the seals are ok.

| Stalks are metal, mirror heads are chromed plastic. Plastic no rust eh?
I ditched those mirrors toot suite on my 1100s, they're horrible. Buy a set and store them for posterity if you must, but the Aprilia/SE mirrors are much nicer/utilitarian/functional AND less expensive. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2012 MOTO GUZZI GRiSO 1200SE2013 MOTO GUZZI STELVIO 1200NTX - Orange Blossom Special

Those are the type that bolt to your helmet - that's why you're having issues.

| I use ACF-50. I previously commuted all year and UK roads are salt mountains in the winter. I spray into lid and paint it on - it smells good too. Sometimes I have a bath in it to stop my ageing, making me like the male version of Ursula Andress the film in 'She' dont look at the real one as she is wrinkly now. It's not cheap but it seems to work. Dump your mirrors and buy this instead.......... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| OK those snarky 1200 SE mirrors are cheap so I have them on their way. No more embarrassing stalk stains in my near future. | |
