Bought a rear rack, used, for my 06 GRiSO 1100, the side mounts line up via the spacers fine, but the top mounting is miles off, are the 1200 and 1100 rack fitting differently?? I suspect the one I have is for a 1200, that being the case, once I have that confirmed, it will be for sale.

That does help thank you eeyore, I bought it used, it cam with the spacers for mounting from the side, but i assumed it had to mount onto those funny 4mm bots under the seat. Will fiddle some more this evening.

Nope, you've got to pop the rear cowl off and drill two holes. The points are marked, but it would still make my butt pucker with the drill motor in hand...

I fitted the same rack some years back, and I'II admit I swerved on attacking this job with hobby equipment, luckily there was a retired fitter and turner up the road and he had all the precision cutting bits and drilling equipment for the job, which turned out excellent, been very happy with the MG tail storage bag, though not very water proof, I coated mine with truckies tarp wax,(and dust) which does the job.

All done, still pondering fitting a box to the rack, it would kinda spoil the thing, I have a bmw 87 GS and a 94 RT for touring anyway.
I do have an oil leak from the gearbox though, did 150 miles today, it does concern me, it is from between the gearbox case and the clutch drum/housing, this casting isnt flat, the seam seems to step, or angle, so I am not sure if there is a gasket between those casings?
I cleaned up, and degreased, and applied some JB weld until I can pull the box and attend to it. Out of curiosity, I dropped the gear oil when I got home, over 600mls in there, more than there should be, I guess the P/O must have topped up with the bike on the side stand.

Sorry, can you post a pic. I can't visualise what you mean. Do you mean the seam of the bell housing where the gearbox mate's to the crankcase?

This join between the two gearbox cases, not the box and the motor, i have cleaned and applied some JB weld along the join under the injector linkage, bit its leaking a little further down on the right hand side, so ill be able to see the repair, its shitty but i dont have time to pull the box for now.

Is it gear oil or engine oil? If gear oil it's certainly a strange place to leak. All I can think is maybe your bike was one of the ones affected by the face cam shock absorber washer tower problem and when the box was taken apart perhaps the box splitting tools weren't used and the cases were pried apart somehow damaging the mating surfaces. That's if you're sure it's gear oil. If it's engine oil I'd be pulling the tank and having a looksee at the breather hoses to see if any of them are split.

Thankd peter, yes definately gear oil, it stinks, there are some marks at the top of the case join, looks as though it has been butchered to facilitate a split, so more jb weld will need to be applied then. Some people need their spanners confiscating. Gggrrrr

I do have a Givi top box on mine at the moment but its fugly as hell. Here is the box I fitted to my V7iii, I am really pleased with the Italian made box, it won't hold a helmet of course but its lockable with the addition of a couple of combination locks. The same box is available from Pelican and others, would suit a manly looking GRiSO I think. I know my Brother in NZ got the same box at his hardware store.
