Perhaps I worry over nothing, but I'd change the filter now. Having it exposed like that is inviting trouble.

My 2009 GRiSO has never had anything other than the standard, non-protruding oil filter. I've done 84,000 km on Gertie and never a problem re the oil/ engine performance. Perhaps you don't need the deeper oil filter?

They protrude on the 2015 and up.

They don't if you use the correct filter. If you don't want to use the factory filter there are many that will fit without protruding. Hi-Flow do one, it's the same as the Aprilia Mana or Cali 14. HF565. It won't stick out like dogs balls.

Apparently Guzzi did a modest redesign of the oil pan, cleaning/freeing up some space and redoing the oil filter connection.

Yes, for the Cali 1400 the sump and associated munt was completely redesigned.
