| So I purchased a used 2012 super awesome GRiSO that is getting 30mpg, on a good day. I recently ran it out of gas after 102 miles. A lot of my riding is commuting around Austin, back and forth to work, meetings, errands, etc and I realize that can have some effect.
Other than that the PO installed the Agostini pipe and crossover, which means the pretzel was removed and is no longer available. In addition there were plenty of fuelling issues that were finally resolved when the Rexxer flash was updated and the oxygen sensor disconnected. Now the bike runs like an absolute dream, no flat spot between 5-6K rpm, it's just awesome but thirsty.
Thoughts? | |

| Based on my experience, I'd say you're not far off target. I average 32-33, doing a lot of 2-up in the mountains. The stop and go city routine is not GRiSO's element. It's a big thirsty freaking motor, with or without mods. More HP than some cars I have owned. My souped up Triumph Bonnie only gets 35 with 800cc, so I'm not too concerned. I blame it on shitty ethanol contaminated fuel because it makes me feel better. | |

I am unable to do worse than around 35 mpg. And that is with high revs on short trips to warm up the motor oil in sub 10*C. Cruising on a fine day I get around 50. Special Beetle mapping and a difficult Zard! My experiece with Rexxer; they just add some fuel, tell you to disconnect lambda and call it the day. If your mapping was custom made for the GRiSO by someone who knows their trade and then flashed by the Rexxer, you should be able to see some different numbers. Svein

| My first full tank running beettle's map got me 35mpg (reserve light came on at 120mi) in combined driving (80% city / 20% hwy). Prior to that it was closer to 30mpg (reserve light at 100miles) for the same route. Some variance in how full the tank was filled. Dash display read avg 32mpg on that last tank. | |

| I get about 34 in a combine scenario with the same percentage than OPC, and I get around 48 in the Country side. The best was 51 in the Mountains last September.
If in town only and blasting around in between traffic lights, don't expect anything better than 30mpg really.

| Interesting, this will give me a good reason to learn more about the bike and put in different maps. I'm no mechanic and really don't do much more than change fluids and install the occasional farkle, though I'd like to learn more. Maps, valves, etc | |

| I love to do the valves on this bike... I've gotten good at it too, getting it right the first time or two with the correct drag at the feeler gauge. On my first bike I kept getting the lag too tight upon tightening the locking nut but got it right eventually after a few tries. It's fun to mess with those Guzzis. | |

| On the run I did to Sydney on Monday, travelling at a steady 120KPH indicated I got 44.8 mpg. Even sticking the spurs in or in the city I rarely go much under 40.
If your FE is as bad as 30 I'd have to say I'd expect the tune to be off somehow. How many miles has it got under its belt? Did you mention that?

| I can get as low as 25-30mpg down in the urban jungle. But up here in the wide open desert I get 35mpg and up in the mountains (Angeles Crest) I can get 40-42 easy.

| As a comparison to the 1200, my 1100 is achieving 42-46 US mpg. Beetle FU2 magic map. 42 up and down a long, steep and twisty hill where the throttle hand is exercised. 46 on the mostly smooth and undulating countryside bimbling along at the speed limit. Also fitted with an Agostini pipe, retaining the original pretzel, no oxygen sensor: another 70grams or extra cream bun saved | |

| The corn alcohol fouling our fuel here does put a significant dent in our economy. You'll get 5 to 10 MPG improvement with ethanol-free pure gas. Check here Laker for a nearby station serving the real thing: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Looks like Texas is one of the few states that still has the good juice readily available. | |

| not to mention what ethanol is doing to nylon tanks ...just ask the Ducati faithful re the Multistrada... or visit Multistrada.net and check the threads there on tanks ..

| The early V7 plastic tanks succumbed to that crap as well. Lawn mower won't run properly on ethanol either and on and on... It's bad all around. | |

| I think it's important not to blame the farmers. It's the huge agribusiness corporations like Monsanto and Cargill that have paid off our elected swine in order to force this on us. They're also gobbling up family farms and making them part of their machine at an ever increasing pace. They're behind all this GMO crap too. Who wants to eat some veggies that produce their own pesticides as they grow? Of course it's safe, they tell us, even though it hasn't been around long enough to know if it gives people cancer. They don't care what they do to people or the environment, as long as their profits continue to soar. | |

| Thanks for the feedback all. Would be nice if Austin was on that list of gas stations that provide ethanol free gasoline.
My GRiSO currently has 5100 miles on it. With this damn cold and drizzle we've had this week it's not getting any more miles either...argh

| I just went for a spin on the Country side today... Since I can no longer get ethanol free easily, I just filled up with regular 93 octane and I got 48mpg. Wasn't expecting that but most importantly, the bike ran awesome.
I should note that I'm running Mark's map (the high mount Mistral one with dbkiller) and the outside temperature was 62 F with no humidity.
