Well I'd been thinking for a while about changing to an LED headlight. I have no issue with incandescent globe indicators but to my mind the H4 headlight on the GRiSO is a bit dated and naff.
Now I would of loved one of the adaptive ones from JW Speaker but at a cool $1,500 that was a firm 'No'! So I went trawling on the bay of fleas and found a 7 inch LED headlight for the princely sum of $38 AU. Now needless to say it doesn't have any of the type approval numbers required on it so it isn't strictly legal but I don't ride at night much at all nowadays and it would be a particularly shitty copper to do you for a non approved light.
It was a bit of an embuggerance to fit. I used four 'W' clips to hold it into the rim and all the wires slipped into the shell behind it with no issues. I went for a run into Canberra and it didn't fall out so I reckon it'll do.
I was so pleased with myself I went and threw the bike on its side in the mud when I got home!

Nice one Pete. The look suits the bike. If you get a chance I'd like to know if it is actually better at night than the shitty factory headlight.
Pity the day finished with a bit of mud wrestling.

Because of the way it's held into the rim I've lost the lateral adjustment. This doesn't worry me unduly, I had an aftermarket H4 insert on my 1100 because on the day I bought it a sand truck popped it's tailgate coming over Sparrows Hill on the way back from the registry office and I got showered with rocks and shale and it took the headlight out! (Yes, I was VERY pissed off!) but that worked pretty well and also had the alignment issue.
When the evenings begin to close in a bit I'll take it out in the dark just to see how it works but as I said, I don't really ride after dark any more due to poor night vision and the number of 'uge macropods that infest the roads around here.

Cheers Pete. I don't choose to ride at night anymore either, but there's been a few occasions when I haven't reached the destination before sunset and the headlight is no better than a candle in a lantern.

+1, nice to be able to see a bit of the world, even if by video. Thanks for putting that together and posting!

I do still ride at night and while there's really nothing wrong with the Sport light, I have given it some assistance in the form of an 8" LED lightbar. Really does make a difference of the standard light. Makes spotting wombats, deer and skippies that much easier on the back road.
Having hit a roo @ $1.20 a few years back makes one a little more carefuller!

Not today, but for the past three weeks we've been in Big Bend, Texas, where the roads are few, and traffic is light. Imagine riding the roads of the Road Runner/Coyote cartoons. Yep, that was our playground. Good stuff.

Due to lack of time and commitment, I took my 2006 GRiSO to Baldrick's workshop in Leatherhead to have the swing arm and shock linkages regreased. I was going to attempt to do it myself, but I'm glad I got a 'grown up' to do it for me. One bearing was going rusty so I'm pleased I didn't leave it any longer to get it done. He leant me a 1200 Sport to ride while he had mine. It was a nice bike to ride. It turned in quicker the the GRiSO which was nice, I think I'll try dropping my forks in the yokes to try and replicate it.

My local classic bike club visited a nearby aged care home to share our bikes with the residents. They took a shine to the GRiSO ....... there quite a few retired bikers among them and they all had stories to tell

It gets worse.
I get back with oil, and pick up the box of munt sitting on top of the front wheel chock, and there, lo & behold, is another fresh 5 litres of Penrite I'd purchased a few months back when I first thought about changing the oil. Arse & hole!
