| Went for a nice 198 mile loop south of Colorado Springs, through the north end of the Wet Mountains, to the east side of the Sange de Cristo mountains, along the Arkansas River and back home. I really love this bike! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Having lunch at the city park in Westcliffe. Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background. | No, the Tail of the Dragon, US 129, is in North Carolina on the eastern side of the US. It is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest. That area is full of good riding; when I lived in Virginia, I used to make a pilgrimage to the western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and northeastern Georgia area for a few days of endless curves. Lots of great memories there! | |

| Well it was another awesome Autumn day here just south of the Maroon Line... But today was a just little different. The holidaze are over and Beautiful Wife took the kids to skool this morning, and I knew the day was mine, finally. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy theme parks, waterfalls, bush walks, surfing, snorkelling, Lego, and endless Avengers movies as much as the next Dad.... but sometimes... So it was into the shed. Check the oil. Check the tyres. Check the fuel... mmm will need to top that up sometime soon. Back inside, get all the gear on - I am definitely one of the ATGATT brigade... Pop the earphones in, crank the tunes - just loud enough to hear over the roar of the exhaust of course! And then out and about for the next 5 hours, up and down and around the hills, through the trees and valleys, all in glorious sunshine. Had to stop for fuel early on as expected, so had a cup of tea and a muffin as well (no photos sorry) then fuel again just before putting her back in the shed - ready to go next time. Quite a good day all in all. Now that the lawn mowing is done, I might just take the bike out tomorrow. She needs a run. Looks like it might be another nice day. | |
