| Hi Guys
Intermittent chirp / squeal when slipping the clutch to pull away quickly. Has existed and been ignored since 30k, but has gotten much worse at 75k and after my cack handed rebuild, (but that didnt include anything but the clutch lever clean, regrease and securing / adjustment of the loose plunger).
As didnt touch the clutch mechanism itself, any votes on if I need to start mithering and shitting myself about dropping the engine for a clutch change, or just shut up and get back to lurking .... | |

| It might be the thrust bearing which is at the back of the box. You have to drop the swingarm to remove the clutch slave but then the thrust mechanism can be plucked out with a magnet.

| Mine does this too. I usually ignore it, but the other day Leah asked me what that horrible noise was. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! . | |

| But Pete, I only just dropped the fecking swingarm... (whine-bitch-whinge etc) but that DOES beat the shit out of an engine out job... many thanks.
Will muster up the guts to check this, but might wait until I have done the first round of suspension twiddling and see if I need a heavier spring o the rear shock (95% I will...) , then fake my death and hide out into the garage spannering for a day or so...
had a few dodgy thrust bearings on cars and was never urgently terminal , so I trust my arsehole isnt going to ruptured by an exploding clutch plate if I procrastinate and faff on this one...
Thanks to Harper's handy exploded parts catalogue I reckon this is the suspect part, will get my ducks lined up :

| Nah, the six speed bearing is bigger. I'll pull the part# for you a bit later.

| Just found your Guzzitech post on 8v thrust bearings Pete....
G12 Bv clutch thrust bearing - Guzzitech
So for the 1100 , no need to get the double torrington bearing?
oh and as the clear plastic coating the braided clutch hose is all perished cracked and brown at the master end, (currently hidden some smart cotton wiring loom wrap tape - my typical horrendous bodgery). So I suppose I could also take the chance to change this while Im in there , pretty sure I have a suitable goodridge stainless hose knocking around in my parts bin.
Also the rubber boot on the master cylinder has split, will ignore that (doesnt seem to leak yet, and cant find a rebuild kit anyway)
When I bled the clutch the old fluid was grey, which I've not seen before - i assume its the piston / bore wearing, or maybe the hose ? Either way will start looking for a spare master....
Wonder if I will actually finish a post without digressing off into a meandering mess of related issues? maybe next time...

| If you want a spare master I have one. I never understood the theory behind the double row bearing as it doesn't reduce the load on the bearing, only the speed at which they turn. If the bearings were prone to collapse adding another one wouldn't stop anything The clutch fluid does get a hard time on Guzzis, no real idea why? I wouldn't worry about it unduly, just change it often. Pete | |
