A couple of weeks ago I found the long blow by system hose on the right hand side of the bike had come loose from the top of the airbox. It made me wonder why it’s even going there? What the purpose?

Good Q', I haven't a clue BUT I'm sure Pete knows. It could be so they can say it all gets burned up.

"Fumes" from the blow-by box are returned to the airbox to be burnt up in the combustion chamber. It's also how oil gets in to the airbox when you overfill the sump.
