Dropped the oil yesterday thinking my universal claw tool would extract the filter ok only to find that there wasn't enough clearance for it
I've ordered the cup for it but I'm the meantime is there any other way of getting the old one off?

cup is the only good way to get it unscrewed. if the cup is a little lose, a piece of paper towel between the filter and cup is usually effective at keeping slippage at bay.
might be able to beat a screwdriver through the old one, but I wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary

To be honest I wouldn’t worry unduly. It’s a huge filter and there isn’t much to shed off the inside of a Guzzi motor. The 10,000Km change interval is extremely conservative. I’d just refill it and ride. Change it at the next service or, if you’re really concerned, when the cup wrench arrives and just top the oil up again. Not to the ‘Full’ mark mind……..
