| Hi All,
It seems most likely the slight howl I'm getting when I close the throttle may be down to a worn final drive bearing. Does anybody know the dimensions of the bearing?
Many thanks, Wildhenry

| Yes, I'll get you the number today. You'll need a new seal as well as it is sacrificial to access the bearing. The BMW seal is about half the price of the Guzzi one.
I have both bearing and seal in stock if you can't find locally.

| Hi Pete, You are the man who seems to have the answers to my GRiSO problems. A true GRiSO Guru! I work for a bearings company here in the UK (BRT) so I can get the best quality bearings SKF,Timken,NSK Koyo ect ..I can get them at a good price but without taking the bearings out I have no idea what size they are. I would appreciate the dimensions or ref number if you have that info.
Many thanks, Wildhenry.

| No worries. The Guzzi seal is only 8mm deep and can't be found easily aftermarket. It's also a Viton seal not a Nitrile one and I'd stick with Viton. The BMW seal is 9 or 10mm deep and sits a bit higher but it works fine. I'll grab the bearing number when I'm back at work. Make sure you get a 19 ball version I use FAG. You can get identical dimensioned and numbered bearings with only 17 balls. These are the ones that shatter their cages, messily!

Heya Pete what's the size of the smaller "outer"bearing on the bevel? Or better yet part # of the smaller FAG bearing recommend?

I have a decent used CARC coming to replace my current shrapnel box. And if it needs a refresh I want to be ready. I am also interested in seeing what's left of the bevel it's replacing. Thanks Pete

| If the one you have coming is off a post 2007 bike the only thing I'd do is drip a few drops of Loctite 'Wick-in' onto the threads above the pinion nut, fill it with fresh oil and bolt it on.
The biggest killer of CARC final drives is the loss of that nut's preload. Apart from that they are pretty much bulletproof.
I too will be interested to know what has grenade in your original.
