Subject: Bought a 2016 with 24 Miles! Now what? Sun May 07, 2023 2:36 pm
After searching for a GRiSO for many years, I came across a bike I could not pass up. Left over stock from a now defunct dealer, I bought a “new” never titled 2016 GRiSO with 24 miles.
This is my first GRiSO and only second motorcycle. Given the bike sat dormant for many years, what maintenance items should I address first?
The fuel and battery were replaced, but otherwise has the original oil, brake fluid, tires, etc. Appreciate everyone’s advice!

Congratulations! *Suggest new oil ASAP, motor (10-60), trans, diff. Still has to break in, so no synthetic in motor first 800miles/km. Electrolysis & condensation in affect in sitting machinery. *Suggest riding first 1000 miles/km before any changes or farkling.

Guzzis have Nicasil bores, the old wives tale about not using synthetic oil during the running in period is just that. They come from the factory with synthetic oil in and the oil that is in there should be just fine. Change it if you wish but it's not necessary.
I would suggest ride it for a tank or two of fuel then give it a full tune up. If you are doing this yourself you'll need to download Guzzidiag and learn how to use it. If you are having someone else do it make sure they know NOT to mess about with the throttle stop screw or linkage rod on the throttlebodies.
Pull the swingarm and rear shock linkages for greasing. This is very important.
Once it has covered it's break in miles you can give it a full service and start thinking about remapping.

Welcome Daniel! - Search for this thread here: "Your GRiSO mods and why you added them?" and read Beetle's
When I got my '17, I'd already been a member here, having read through various issue and maintenance threads, so I took GRiSO to a good local indi shop that'd worked on my V65C, and had him give it a thorough onct over. Upgrades: - Mistral Hi-Pipe as budget allows - connect w/ Beetle for his map install. - installed a throttle lever kit to extend the first 1/3 turn, kinda works.. - Pirelli Angel GT-2 rubber / or Mich Road 6's - Corbin seat (oh yes) - JW Speaker Adaptive LED headlight - brake light flasher module, and addn'l running lights - Matris coilover if you've got the dosh - Mike Moss custom suspension tune - for you ($40)
Preventative stuff: - replace all fluids with the right stuff - & air cleaner - added the starter<>direct2batt wire mod kit - $40 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - at Beetle's sug, I had the shop drop the swing arm to check for prop lube. Mine was fine, good for peace of mind!
- once the bike is all snappy, GO TO SCHOOL AND KEEP LEARNING HOW TO RIDE - Then take it to a track and learn more how to ride.
Best of GRiSO and Luck to ya!!!
- Brett

It's got 24 miles on it. Change clutch and brake fluid, and tires. Ride it till first service and do that service.

Do tires really go bad without use?

Depends on how they were stored, some what. The oils in the rubber dry out and the rubber will start cracking. I figure 7 years if stored in climate control, some say 10.

I wouldn't worry unduly about the tyres but change them before you start pushing the envelope. What does the clutch fluid look like? CARC bikes are murder on clutch fluid. If it's black? Change it. Otherwise leave it until the first service.

that is exactly how I acquired my GRiSO! a dealer closed shop, bike had been on the showroom floor for 3 + years and I couldn't pass it up. Follow Pete's advice for basic maintenance and search this site for info as needed. FYI - do not keep the engine oil at the full mark. read the many threads on this. I recall the break in period was longer than what the owners manual said. For about 5k miles, the clutch smelled like shit and it ran ok-ish. after the first full service, it woke up and along with a new map, it's been the best thing since sliced bread!
welcome and enjoy!

At 6'4 I am finding the bike to be pretty cramped. Any suggestions for seats that would give me another inch or two?

If it doesn't already have them, you can also consider adding some lowered pegs...Knight Designs has 1, 1.5 and 2 inch drops...that helped me a lot as well to make for more comforting long day rides.
After market seats like Corbin seem to be lower than stock, may need to get a custom seat built up, but you could get an Airhawk or a sheepskin on top of it and then a King of Fleece seat cover and that helps build up the seat an inch or two.

Hmm. My Corbin added 20mm (3/4 inches).
I do not recommend the 2" lower KD pegs. You will scrape at very low speed.

Interestingly I have two different solutions on my two bikes but both work for me. Bear in mind though that I'm not nearly as tall as you at 5'10" and I also have a long back and short legs.
On Yellow Bike I have a Corbin + lowered pegs + a set of Onur's bar risers and Rizoma bars. The forks are dropped an inch or more and I have a longer than stock shock. Despite the seat height being lower it feels more comfortable and easier to Chuck around than the stock set up, even with the narrower bars.
With Red Bike the forks are only dropped a couple of rings and the shock is only about 1 cm longer than stock, pegs are standard and it has Mana handlebars. Biggest difference for comfort though is the MJM seat which, although loosely based on the Corbin's shape is built on the original pan and adds probably close to an inch in height. Despite the stock peg position my creaky old knees remain pain free, even on longer trips. Red Bike is a far more *Relaxed* ride than Yellow Bike as befits its 'Touring' status.
Obviously MJM are a bit far away from you, (They're just up the road from me in Goulburn NSW.) but should you want a similar seat I have a spare I could get modified. I seem to remember mine cost about $550AU. It certainly wasn't any more.

I bought a 2015 two years ago with only 1,972 miles on it. Long story but it sat for 5 years in the previous owners garage. Took it to my nearest dealer, and the mechanic suggested a 12,000 mike service to make sure all fluids would be replaced, and everything inspected. A little costly, but worth the peace of mind. Also, be careful if the tires. Mine had the original tires, and after riding it for 26 miles, a very large crack began to open in the sidewall. Could have gotten ugly quick.

they do, but only in the beginning. i am on the edge of my tire and now they have a nice 45 degrees edge on the back
it really depends how squeezed you feel on the bike. i did develop a pain after a two full days of driving in my hip und with the 2'' KG it slowly goes away again

The 1" KD pegs also scraped..but only in the tight stuff. The 2" ones scraped at 40 km/h in town. Being bounced into the next lane put me off.

[quote="Pawel Spoon" completely forget to mention that I use the stelvio shock[/quote]
. I have the 1" lowered KD pegs, a decent aftermarket shock/spring, run my tires sorta to the edge, and have touched a peg once. At 6'2" and over 300#, I mash the suspension into submission, so my thinking is the proper shock makes all the difference.

I just order the 2 inch foot peg. I ride like an old man though, so hoping I will not scrape on my stock suspension.

- I lowered my front end four+ marker lines, and like the resultant turn in characteristics - without noticably sacrificing any up straight stability. - I only drag the stock footpegs on track days, where of course I wish they didn't > read Beetle above!! - at 5'9" average build on week+ long rides, my legs never cramped, while the occasional standups surely felt nice. - the basic size bar risers do increase comfort too

Street put up a pic of this fairing and its slightly smaller companion in another thread recently. It's a Givi, I can't remember the model number A370 or some such? Anyway it has long been NLA. I was just lucky enough to snap one up when it became available second hand a few years ago.

My three fairings. The red ones are long gone, current GRiSO wears the Stryker.
