Whilst doing some fiddling with the new bars I discovered that the throttle was not returning with its usual authoritative click. With the bars pushed all the way left it would only close about 9/10. Hmmm... I retired for the night with plans of disassembly but with the morning came clarity. I had adjusted the slack out of the "pull" side to eliminate the herky-jerky at low speeds but I never touched the "return" cable.
Long story short, it was a bit too tight. I put in some slack and the throttle "returned" to normal.
I seemed to remember reading somewhere that this should be done but I couldn't tell you where, so now you read it here.
The bike is now gassed up and ready for tomorrow's trip to The Island of Lost Souls, Manhattan NYC, where I will lunch with the patriarch and fix his coffee maker.
