hmmm problems, no start. FIXED

ok...

just changed my bars and went to turn on the bike

I get a message at the bottom of the dash saying ECU and a logo looking like a plug/connector or something? The red warning triangle above the dash stays on.

everything else on the dash is working - time temperature etc

And the bike won't start

It also won't seem to recognise guzzidiag.

weird.

While doing the handlebar swap I did pinch the sheathed 4 wires from the RH switchgear against the screen bracket.

I have removed and replaced the wires and sheath (I have wired boats, houses and entire bikes in the past and have all the superseal gear so I have 100percent confidence that this step has been carried out to a high standard.)

still not starting.


anything else that could cause this?

any ideas?

I've never been confronted with this kind of thing before.

BTW No other wires look pinched or otherwise compromised.


Help gratefully appreciated, feel a bit   to have an incapacitated bike.

The ECU disconnected symbol can have a variety of causes. Chances are when you pinched the switchgear harness it caused a short and popped a fuse. I think the second one back from the rear of the fuse box is the ECU fuse, it also deals with the speedo signal and a couple of other things as well from memory.

just after I posted, I thought to myself, how would I approach this on an old bike, umm check the fuses...


So I did and yeah its fine now.

 



Obviously they blow after a short.


I think I've read so much about the dash and the immobilisers causing problems etc etc that I assumed there must have been some catastophe afoot.

thanks for the info, yes it was the 2nd fuse.

any ideas on guzzidiag not reading? could a blown fuse cause that?

If you can't talk to the ECU then yes, GuzziDiag will not work. If there was a blown fuse powering the ECU, that would explain it.

Yes, it does. If you get the ECU unplugged icon, plus that particular fuse blown, the ECU no talky. No power to ECU.


Don't commit harakiri. No one likes cleaning up entrails.
