| What is this hole and why is it leaking at 975 miles. Thank you for any input. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| It's the drain from the plug well and should be dry. Remove the cover for the HT lead and remove the plug cap by levering it up from the bottom with a long, thin screwdriver inserted through the cooling tunnel above the exhaust manifold and have a really good squizz down the plug tunnel. If it is wet all the way down it will likely be the circular gasket that seals between the rocker cover and cambox/rocker carrier. If it is wet further down it will be the plug tube o rings, either in the head or the cambox. Either way the cambox has to come off. Not a big job but it will mean taking it back to where you purchased it for warranty. | |

Thanks Pete, I pulled the plug wire and see oil down where the plug threads in, I'm not sure how oil would get down to where the hole is on the side of the head or unless as you suggest it's further down? I have never seen or heard of a drain from the side of a head before... Crazy engineering I guess. Thanks again, Tom

I take it the drain hole can't be seen looking into the plug tube, it's towards the front in the tunnel near the exhaust flange/manifold?

| In the diagram below you can see the circular gasket at the top between the rocker cover and cambox and the short 'Plug Tube' that goes between the bottom of the cambox and the head that is sealed by two o- rings. Most likely it is one of those o-rings that is leaking. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Great link Pete, Thanks. I've used AF1 before but didn't see their OEM exploded parts list. For future reference, if the cam blocks need to come off is it just 4 bolts to the head? anything to watch for? Thanks again, Tom | |

| There are two 8mm head, 6mm shank bolts at the back of the cam chain tunnel that need to have the tension taken off them before you crack the main head stud nuts. Obviously you need to unhook the cam sprocket too but it's all fairly easy. | |

| My 13 Stelvio had a similar leak from the side of the cylinder, it was under warranty and the dealer said it was an assembly port used by the factory. The screw used to seal it had been cross threaded and was leaking. The dealer said they could order a new head under warranty(long wait) or just used some gasket sealer on the threads to stop the leak. I was told the it was nothing that would ever be required to be removed. I had them seal it and it worked for about a week before it leaked again, they JB welded it next time and it hasn't leaked again in over 40 k miles. | |
