| Here are some pix of my recent V7 trip to Kentucky to eat mutton. I have done this before on the GRiSO, and will again, but this trip last week was on my new-to-me (formerly my brother's) V7 III. If you decide to open the link, below, have at it. Just don't whine about "too many pix." It's a character & behavior disorder. On the bright side, you can see all pix at once when the link opens and “hover” over any to get (truncated) captions. To read all of those, click on first pic to go to slideshow mode. This was a grand trip with a boon companion, tho Lannis (on his Stelvio) and I would have preferred our Perfect Pillions, Fay & Kathi to have come along. That said, they were busy — hmmmm; or said they were! — and mutton waits for no woman. OK, here’s the link: Mutton in May on a Moto Guzzi Best from the top of Virginia ... Bill

| I like the look of the Blue V7. That Mutton event is one impressive shindig. I see that you spent some time in the home of my Marshall University. Graduated in 1981 and haven't been back since 1998. You do some impressive traveling and always have great shots. | |

| Baa Baa Black Sheep... And an oldie at that!
Mutton is a term for elderly lamb, Lamb is a term for a young sheep, usually withing the first 2 years of its life. At no time can this be seen on a cow unless you take the skin off the cow first, which highlights the sheep within.
There is an expression "Mutton dressed up as Lamb" which is how mutton used to be sold. But the flavour is totally different, just as lamb slaughtered without stress, tastes way different than lamb through a slaughterhouse. Just saying...

| that would be a very elderly lamb Tony, lambs are usually up to a year, they then become hogget -when the lamb becomes a teenager.... and finally, when age takes it toll, and gravity kicks in... mutton. Yes, I have a Kiwi relative... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| You haven't tasted mutton until you had the pleasure of eating withered flesh of the scabbiest old wether your old man could find to slaughter. The flavour is also psychosomatically enhanced by watching the beast's throat slashed, the gush of shit pouring out, then the rancid stench and gurgling slough of the entrails splashing onto the ground.

Tony, somehow, amongst all the drinks consumed, I remember you telling a similar story to Beetle's at The Budgie - only it included a ute, children & entrails thrown in the back

| It's just before 5 a.m. here at the top of Virginia, and I am getting ready to ride to Erie, Pa., to visit the outlaws, then over to the western N.Y. Guzzi rally. I'm not much of a rally guy, but Kathi likes this one for some reason, so off we go ... on the Norge. Yes, the GRiSO is up next. Anyway, so I opened this thread to see what comments, if any, might have happened. Lordy, Beetle, thanks so much. Seriously, there is, of course, the unsavory side of being carnivorous, and slaughter can be ... erm ... disquieting for the witnesses (and, of course, the meat on the hoof!). And, I, too, have seen some of the drama that even PETA people cannot imagine , but it is, I suppose, the price we meat eaters must pay for the flesh we enjoy with the right wine. Regrettably, as fine as Daviess County mutton is, I have yet to find the right red for it. Beer works, tho, and that, with some good friends along, makes it all come together in a most wonderful way. Must go. Life is good. Bill | |

| Oh, make no mistake, I'm a carnivore of the highest order. I could eat a steak while watching cows get bolted. Mutton, on the other hand..I can't even stand the smell if it cooking. I can eat lamb cutlets, French trimmed, marinated by Leah and barbecued by my own hand. A lamb chop or roast gives me pause. Mutton will not pass my lips ever again.
Great pics, BTW Bill, as always.

| Youse blokes are more twisted then me - just putting it out there...
Craig you are right, I did quote that little story.
I always have time for "lamb" whether it be a wether, or mutton or ginuine lamb - brought up on the stuff, and what doesn't kill you...
Nice photos Steve, I remember when I had a modern version of those way back in the 70s - would do it again but more salt than pepper these days.
Bill, I find a good old weathered Shiraz (15+ years old) with lots of bottle sediment is a good accompaniment - try it.
