| Well it looks like our second 1400 project is going to be more trouble than it's worth so I guess the motor will be coming out of the Stelvio again temporarily.
Unlike Mark's engine which was built by using a 1400 crank and barrel/piston kits with modified heads the Stelvio project started with a crashed Cali 14 that we have tried to modify to work. There have been a host of niggling problems though. Most of them fixed fairly easily but I fear that the latest will probably make it simpler to just drop the engine back out and build into a 1200 case.
The enormous elephant in the corner is the phase sensor and phonic wheel set up. The 1400's use a different sensor and a different, smaller, phonic wheel with two triggers rather than one. Not only is the depth different by about 4mm but where the wheel sits in relation to the mounting bore in the crankcase itself is different. We've had it running, but not well and accuracy of timing is going to be very difficult to achieve.
It's all a real bore after all the time and effort Michael has poured into it but I honestly think, unless we have a miraculous brainwave, it'll just be easier to strip both motors and put the 1400 crank into the 1200 cases.
Oh well, it was worth a try. You don't learn nuffink unless you try.

| If you are not making mistakes, you are not progressing. Looking a the retroscope often shows clarity, after the event.
Pete, at least you and Michael know now!

| How is Michael doing, Pete? Sounds encouraging that he's "working on it".

| Michael has been determined to get the 1400 going and has been tipping hours into it. Today his hard yacka paid off. With a new map from Mark it's up and running! I took it for a quick scoot around the yard and nothing broke, blew up or fell off. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]We've also got a brief video that is 'Processing' as I type this. If I can work out how I'll stick it up too. Pete | |

| "Oh well, it was worth a try. You don't learn nuffink unless you try." said someone... that would seem to be a 'yes' and so it seems the Padawan becomes the Master Great job Michael! | |

The horse may have over indulged in all that green grass and is having a nap around the back, Nice work with the engine but I am happy enough with the standard 1151 lump Is it more torque you are looking for Pete.? Fair play Michael,

| I note there is an outboard motor planted in the paddock - do they grow well in that spot? | |

Michael's family have a farm and are very 'Horsey'. Before his crash he was very involved in the NSW Light Horse re-enactors and among his other talents was an accomplished horseman. Sadly another aspect of his life that is now no longer possible. The outboard motor harvest is about to commence Tony. We have a whole field of them out behind the barn with the horse float in it. It's guarded by the geese. Just like the Capitol in Rome! Pete

| I tried growing an outboard in the veggie patch, but it grew with a bad cooling pump, so I plucked it early & chucked it in the shed. Although it's only 40min to Bungendore, the (political?) climate must be different in Canberra. | |

Pete Awesome - I always wanted to see an outboard harvest - now I'm itching to go to the Robertson Show this weekend...

| Well I took it out for a longer ride this morning after re-registering it. The mapping is a mess and it started pissing oil out of the phase sensor but above 3,000 it's like a turbocharged tractor! | |
