North Island NZ

While deciding whether to do the TT2000 (2K km in 48hrs) my brother and i decided that it was not for us.
So we made our own route as below;

This took in the four extremities of the North Island, there is a lighthouse at each point and our goal was to reach each one and return home in 3 days.

Day 1 saw us riding out from Kawerau along the pacific coast and up the east coast to East Cape. Some rain showers had gone through just before us and the road was damp most of the way. The last 10kms was gravel.

Then headed down to Cape Palliser. Roadworks were everywhere from East Cape to Napier, at least 15 stop/go and the same number of reduced speed.
The roadworks slowed us down so much that we had to modify our route a bit and stay on the main road
The roads around Cape Palliser were awesome, unlike the East Cape roads
