| Well just fitted the rollerised kit. Admittidley I did have both heads of at once but I marked up the chain and sprockets. I have followed the maintanance manual but when I start her she's running as lumpy as our roads. Have I fooked up. I have attached photos, I did the left side first and worked to the right: All I can see in the inspection hole is scratch marks around the TDC points but there is about an inch. Am I being a prize idiot. I will post the right cylinder on next post. Cheers . | |

| I would not count on any marks on the flywheel, do absolute TDC on compression stroke. Do Not put the big holes on the oil spreader over the locating pin, the pin WILL come out. I use the little holes, you can see pin but it can't come out. | |

| When you say lumpy, is it running as the timing is out?
Have you re-checked the timing? They will run with one tooth out, but produce no power, however you woud not notice any lumpiness.
Are there any noises coming from the top end?
I would start again and go through the timing from scratch

| It will tick over but won't rev. I have checked it again (as per the photos) and it all looks pretty close. Why don't they put a definite TDC mark, they give you the bloody hole...it is a little noisey but not clattering it's tits off. The TPS was set at 7.4 degrees so I reset to the 4.6 whilst it was in pieces. It does feel like the throttle is not connected to the engine?? Confused.. | |

| The timing inspection port is a hangover from the old days, it is now completely functionless, ignore it.
I’ve no idea what you’ve done but why on earth did you take both heads off at once? It’s asking to loose the timing!
I’d go in again and start from scratch with first one side and then the other and make certain it is timed correctly.
The linkage rod between the TB’s hasn’t been disconnected or fiddled with has it?

| Although it all looks lined up the chain has likely slipped around the lower sprockets that drive it....if that's the case then at exact TDC your top cam sprocket key will look out of line on one or both cylinders (see one tooth out picture below). You are right finding that TDC without a flywheel mark is tricky as there is a point where turning crank flips the conrod & TDC stays same, screwdriver end may move etc ---- so just saying finding TDC to set chain timing requires more attention/accuracy than when setting valve clearances !. I marked flywheel up before taking head off just in case chain slipped (it did )....as other said you musn't let the top sprocket pin get anywhere near the big open holes in the oil shield else it will wiggle out...if you can't find aligned problem after that then it's something else. Hope it goes well. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Thanks again. I've just checked it all again and moved the plates round, but it still starts up and won't rev. It is louder on the right cylinder and I have this feeling that it is a tooth out even though it looks right. I'm just checking I've not disturbed anything (vac hose etc) before I take the chain tensioner out and start again. Bloody sun's shinning as well grrrrr....f*******g......grrrrr... | |

| Why would you start by releasing cam tensioner ? If either side is a tooth out then it will be obvious (assuming you actually are at TDC) from the fact that the upper sprocket key doesn't line up with straight line between the cover bolt holes. So unless you can see it's obviously not aligned, there isn't much point to un-tension the cam chain because you only do that to move the chain around the top sprocket so that they do align . | |

| Right I just pulled the right side down again, moved a tooth and put it back properly this time. I've just done an 8 mile run and all seems good. Lessons learned and I don't want another bollocking off Pete. Thanks for all your help and now I can move onto all the other jobs I can fook up.. | |
