Well while I was away Michael fitted up my new forks, a set of Sachs with Matris internals. Why? Lighter springs for one but mainly because I'm a wanker and they are very, very golden! only problem I hadn't foreseen was the front mudguard. I'd eyeballed the mounts and thought they were identical. Sadly they aren't which means I've had to buy a carbon fibre one off an RSV-4 which puts the wanker factor through the roof!
Sachs are slightly fatter at the bottom and thinner at the top so I had to do a bore and shim job on the yokes. Hopefully the new mudguard will be here by the weekend. It needed new head stem bearings too but that's unsurprising at 120,000km.

As I said, I'm a wanker. I've always liked golden forks and these were actually a bit easier than the Ohlins which I may still stick on if I'm unhappy with the Sachs/Matris set up.
Well, despite the wank factor the golden forks are actually a noticeable improvement over my Matris equipped Showas. Why, well the Matris units were off Mark S's bike which I wrecked out and it would seem that despite Matris's oft experienced over-springing this has worked to my advantage as Mark is a tiny little midget and his springs are far more suitable for my bloated carcass!
Haven't checked the settings yet as I've only been for a quick spin but I don't think it as an entirely wank driven modification.

I thought the "wank" factor was reserved for the new RSV4 carbon mudguard, for which I have a special kermit green rattle can, reserved just for you Pete. I wanted gold forks for Bella, but had to settle for dull boring alloy/silver Showa's.

Nah, I feel that the carbon guard will remain carbon coloured, it least until I've drained my jizz over it for a while....

Too much wanking going on in this thread methinks.

I've had my front forks replaced with Matris internals, and they're a definite improvement over stock. Is the spring rate too high? Not sure. It's firm, and certainly doesn't dive much under braking. Reminds me to put a texta mark on the forks to see how much they are compressing under use.

Well I went out and did a bit of fiddling with the new forks today. A nice 200km gallop over some really shitty roads and am pleased to report that the new set up is a great improvement over the previous one.its now set up and is far more subtle and comfortable than it was before and I can tackle virtually any road considerably quicker than I was able to with the Showas. Money well spent. Great Kudos to Laurie who set them up for me. Love his work!

use a Ty-rap, or Zip-ty if you prefer. Zip it up firm so it will still slide , cut the tag off.

I'm thinking something needs to be done with the frame tubes. That silver and gold are clashing!
