| My 07 is done pissing me off with its fickle oil switch... I have a replacement from the NAPA store and I know I need a 21mm wrench for the job, but where is the damn thing located? Is it on the side of the block? In the valley under the tank? The manual is no help and I don't have a service book for the 1100... Can't find pictures anywhere on the web as I heard the removal of the left side exhaust pipe might be needed but I can't see anything behind it so what gives? Anyone has pics of this? | |

| Pascal, it is indeed in the valley. But, you might be able to get to it by removing the exhausts and go in on the left hand side. i have never had any joy with this method and remove the tank and go in that way.
It might be worth, checking the spade connector on top of the switch (before you replace the whole thing) - I have found this to be the culprit on mine. I removed the small screw and replaced the original connector with a 1/4" quick connect lug, available from most auto stores and a new 3 or 4 mm screw to keep it in place. original wire side lug fits on it nicely and no more troubles with it.

| OK. I will investigate this tomorrow... Those early switches are notorious for going bad anyway so I'll replace it and have a piece of mind. I'll look into a better connector as well. Thanks for the help Tony. | |

| On the 8V it's deep in the valley and you have to remove the tank to access it. If it's one of the early type Guzzi will tell you that you need to change to the late type and use an adaptor. This is infuriating because the adaptor fouls the alternator, quite simply it doesn't work very well! The good news is if you go to your local 'Wottalottcrap Auto' type place they should have a book that will allow you to cross refference the switch with something common. Over here I use a Tridon part. The hex is bigger but it has the same thread and top fitting, crack pressure is ever so slightly higher but apart from that it's identical and does the job.

| I did mine recently on my 1100 easiest way is whip off the left header use a headtorch (flashlight ) move all the cables and piping out of the way (i had to remove something else if i remember ) and you will see it deep in the V
It can be removed with care with a 21 mm open face spanner. Mine new one came withe the new spade connector.
Be careful when you put the new one back and dont drop it into the V as I did and had to make an extraction device out of bent wire
20 min job if you dont be an arse and drop it like I did

| Did mine last week and for sure, the header needed to be removed and so was the coil for ease of prying the plumbing away. Easy job actually... Have pictures but I'm new to Mac computer so I need to learn the upload and all that.. lol

| You're right...I removed that as well. It's the breather from the air box I think... | |

| First off make sure you have the right thread. There's a course thread and fine thread sending unit. don't ask me how I know
I pulled my fuel tank and removed the sending unit with a looong socket extension and crow's foot. An 1/8th turn to break the tension then I wound it out with two fingers from the left hand and one finger from my right.
Yeah there's no room
Replacement was the reverse.

| We fared fine in Orlando...Category 1, lol I fart stronger than that! The annoyance is loss of power...just got mine turned back on this afternoon (was out since Sunday 9pm). In this day and age, we should never lose power for something like that. Especially with most power lines being under ground. | |

| Hi All, Did my 50k service new plugs, oils, filter, gaskets in all.
Noticed a lot of oil vapour crud around the oil breather box at the head stock and bottom of vee area.
Cleaned it all up, took it for a spin.
I'm trying to track where the leak is coming from, it almost looks like the oil sensor is leaking between its metal body and plastic inner.
Has this happened to any one else or am i looking in the wrong area?
Cheers Terry | |

| Yes I've had an oil sensor failure. Cheep replacement with an automotive one. Easy to replace. just lift the tank from the front and prop it up, no need to disconnect. | |
