| Just got my bike (Norge) back from having Matris shocks and forks installed. I went and found the only curves existing in Florida -- the on ramps onto 417 and 528 to test them out - chicken strips wlll get a lot smaller from now on. Quite a big difference on first look and it has not really been setup properly until I bed them in. I had put the map back to stock while it was in.
I just hooked up the Guzzidiag cables to put Mark's map back in and when I put the negative cable on it sparked as I attacked the clip. When I connected the cable to the bike's input, it started smoking...
I got it off pretty quickly and looks like no damage to the bike as it starts fine. Even more important, my work computer still functions.
Was it that I had the trickle charger still connected?? Can't remember if I usually do that or not but that seems the likely culprit. I know the battery was in and out to put the rear shock in - is there something else happening? Like a bad earth or something else. I know next to nothing about electrons.
Will be on stock map for the moment. The black cable got hot but the blue and silver one looks fine. Do I get another black cable? No visible damage to any of the plugs but was smoke coming from it for about a second before I got them apart. ??

| The Guzzidiag cables ground/earth through the OBD connection, the ground clip on the cables is superfluous. My guess is that you "accidentally" connected to the wrong battery terminals and smoked your OBD cable. Ask me why your experience sounds familiar... Time to order another cable. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2012 MOTO GUZZI GRiSO 1200SE2013 MOTO GUZZI STELVIO 1200NTX - Orange Blossom Special | |

| What Steak said. There is no need to connect the negative clip on the 3 pin to 16 pin adapter. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! . | |

| FYI, you don't need to re-order the adapter cable, just the one with the smoked FTDI chip...

| That's what you get when you don't cut off the black thing.
And diagnose still works?

| I managed the same thing. My bikes without a cigarette lighter have an SAE connector across the battery for trickle charging, and the charger has a mating SAE connector with the positive connected to the exposed terminal on the connector.
When using Guzzidiag, I have an SAE connector installed for quick connection to the bike battery. One lesson I learnt was not to plug Guzzidiag into the battery charger SAE by mistake. New FTDI cable required.

| Bike is good but cable is definitely stuffed - I did liberate the special smoke. The light on the blue cable comes on when I connect it again but will not connect.
Yes I connected the wrong side, must have done this 50 times before and then do this. Just glad the bike still started.
New cable being ordered from the UK.

| most times it goes wrong like this the bike will only run with the diagnostic plug attached. Because a part in the ecu is gone. So you were very lucky. | |
