| Been out over the weekend on the GRiSO, up to the shop at Silerstone where I bought it and back home via a big multi franchise bike shop for a burger and tea. Now I often get people asking about it but everyone that spoke to me that day asked how many problems I had with it, one guy asked me 3 times. In the end I it affected me pyschologically and I started replying that it sometimes cut out with the side stand down so I didn't disappoint them. Mind you it does clatter something terrible in neutral with the clutch out and it managed to go from a full tank to the petrol light coming on after 67 miles ! However, the ride was great, there really is something unique about them. Had today off work so was out again, brilliant. | |

| Is the clattering from the gearbox? 'Cos it shouldn't!
As for the dreadful fuel consumption? Well, it can't be tuned right. Sure they're thirsty but not that thirsty. Mine, even with the 68S map in would do 200km before the light would come on, nowadays I get 230!

| The clatter seems to come from the front. If I pull in the clutch it stops, in fact it is exceptionally quiet with the clutch in, no rattles or anything. It doesn't affect the way it rides, clutch take up is lovely, no missed gears or anything.
I filled up today and got 99 miles till the light came on. On the Saturday though I was thrashing it bit....

| Whoops. Misread your reply.
A8 shouldn't be that noisy as it has the cams shimmed for end float. All the 8V's are noisier than most current motorbike engines but they shouldn't be flattery.

| Pete,
Yes, the heads themselves are very quiet for the engine type, I'd expected them to be a lot noisier really. It's just the noticeable clatter from around the main block with the clutch out. Oh well, not to worry...

| hi tony, you sure you wasn't racing round Silverstone to get that mpg.from what you say it sounds just like normal clutch rattle.mine does the same and although it depends on just how bad your rattle is(if its louder than a ducati clutch you may have a problem)its probably normal.went down to the south of England showground on sunday to a classic bike show and auto jumble, had a great day.the only downer was I was charged £5 quid to get in(oap prices) but im only 58,ive obviously had a hard life.regards pat | |

| Pat, are all Guzzi owners in their 50s ?
Beetle, is that your home brewed map that gives better consumption ? I nearly always get high 90s before the light comes on. Don't know what happened going to Silverstone, but it was the hardest ride it has ever had.

| Tony, I don't have anyone in the UK using my map. Wanna be the first? Even when I give it the berries, my GRiSO still gets better mileage than stock. And goes better too. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! . | |

| I'm at 150+ on my current tank. The light has been on for the last ten miles or so. Will be fueling up on my next time out, but just wanted to see how far I could push a tank using Mark's latest map... --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2012 MOTO GUZZI GRiSO 1200SE2013 MOTO GUZZI STELVIO 1200NTX - Orange Blossom Special | |

| Thanks for the offer Beetle, If I wasn't as far away from you as is physically possible I would take you up on it. I wouldn't know what to do with a new map, how to download it etc..
Pat, I might ride out to that café in Oxford tomorrow around midday.

| Tony, if you're ever up near Lincolnshire, there's a chap there who has a copy of my map and can certainly flash it for you if he is willing. He doesn't own a GRiSO, but is very knowledgeable re GuzziDiag. Just an idea. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ..[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].In GRiSO we trust! . | |

Cheers Tony, while I can understand your being somewhat daunted by the idea of messing around with maps and may not have the equipment to flash your ECU it is not hard. If you purchase the cables and download Guzzidiag you can perform all the necessary 'Everyday' tuning and adjustment functions on your bike which is a real boon, especially as the UK seems to be remarkably short on good service providers. If you feel uncomfortable about loading up a map I have one of my 'Loaner' ECU's coming back from the US right now. If you'd like me to flash it up and send it to you for you to install (which on a GRiSO is very easy) I can happily do that. You'll still need to find someone local with Guzzidiag or VDSTS/Centurion to re-set the TPS and adjust the idle trim but believe us, its worth it. Pete

| Thanks Beetle, Pete,
If I can find somebody who knows what they are doing I may take up your offer. I guess I could ask the dealer I got it from or enquire on the UK Guzzi forum. Alternatively, there must be places that specialise in this stuff. How easy is it to return to standard if I mess up ?

| Tony, I am far from a 'Computer God' in fact the idea is laughable! If I can work it a three fingered cretin from the third ring of hell can!
One of the problems in the modern world is that people will try and tell you that stuff is 'Secret' and 'Special'. It isn't. Yes it takes knowledge and skill but it isn't written in hieroglyphs and only understood by people with brains the size of the Mekon! (You're probably old enough to remember the Mekon!)
I need loyts of help from people like Paul and Mark to get stuff up and running and understand the 'Computer' aspects when things go wrong but the use of the software is simple and intuitive. Refuse to be scared! Refuse to be ignorant!

| Yes, I remember mekons !
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'll try talking to the dealer at some point.
Was out again at the weekend, went to the cafe Pat suggested, and mpg is back in the high 90s before the light comes on. Got no idea how much fuel is left at that point but rode a good 35 miles before filling up.
