| HI all.
Had the misfortune of dropping the grisso which the insurance company are going to write off. They have offered me a buy back so I went to the dealer to have a closer look at the damage.
The tappet cover has ground through allowing quite a bit of gravel to enter in around the roller rockers and top of the head area. I will have to remove this gravel obviously but am concerned about the debris that has already gone down on its return route to the sump.
First question is this. Does the oil returning from the top of the heads go straight to the sump and is there anything that restricts that return?? I know I will have to remove the sump and flush the engine from the head down but do I need to remove more?
Of note is the fact that when I had my crash, I was in the South Island of New Zealand (15 degress C average) touring for 8 days and was into day 5. Without a lie I had ridden in torrential rain for the last 4 of those 5 days, covering 2000 kms, all in the wet and when the accident happened it was pissing down. So the bike came to an abrubt stop (angle sensor) and was never started again, placed on a transporter and shipped to the dealer in the North Island. Today is 16 days after the crash and when I removed the tappet cover the amount of milk was amazing. Heaps of it. The engine has always been perfect with no milk at all and was fully serviced by me prior to me going away including setting the tappets. No sign of milk at all.
The next question is this. If I had continued riding without incident would that milk have occurred and if so (because of the wet conditions) would it burn away in dry weather with say a 300km ride?

| Hi Mark, Peter Roper will give you the best advice on the Mayonnaise in the top end, but the engine should be fine. I bought my 2015 Rosso at auction after it suffered a similar fall. It had small blue metal ( stones) in the top end and I pulled the sump as a precaution. Gave it a good clean out , new gaskets and rocker cover and all's well If it's not too bad , buy it back As for the Mayo, I personally have never seen it in mine , I live in a very dry hot area on the central coast of Queensland.

| Once the sump and rocker cover are off , you will see how the oil drains back to the sump. Just flush the top end with copious amounts of fuel or kero or diesel etc with a container under the engine. You won't hurt anything ......... But, relubricate every thing in the top end before putting the new hat on Obviously wash out the sump too, check the oil pump suction screen for contamination ( mine had a bit of fluff all over it, from a rag used the wipe the dipstick maybe ? ) Depending on how much dirt got in there, you may want to remove the Cambox for a more thorough clean out .

| It happened in the lower region in a range called the Catlins between Owaka and Balcutha. There were 15 of us on bikes and one of the fellas had a brand new Indian which he lost control of and high sided in front of me. As I went to go round him and then stop I hit the same piece of shit road he had, which in the rain was like glass. Front wheel went out and down I went. No-one hurt other than pride. | |

| Nice sump. We were on our way up the island and across after having just been to the tool shop in Invergargil that has all of the Burt Munroe bikes etc. Great place. Were going to travel back up the East coast but alas while we were there the earthquake hit and plans changed. | |

| Bugger, we went to PJ Evans ? In invfercargle too, awesome shop, bikes and cars in amongst the hardware for sale. ( and some Burt Munroe memoribillia ) There was a display of an engine made by a NZ local who was challenged to make an engine that ran , from all the crap he had lying around in his shed. He did, and it works ! The carby is made from a common garden tap ? I would love to meet this guy and talk to him. | |
