| Also it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't find another box of old stock lying about after the introduction of rollers and just 'Used it up'. | |

| I'll be in Nova Scotia this summer (Ste. Margaret Bay), unfortunately without my GRiSO, we should grab a beer or two and talk Guzzi. | |

| Thanks Bulldog ..... yes it is a very nice area .... so nice in fact , unlike many I grew up with I am still in same small town I was born in .... last one of my family to remain .... at this stage I'm not going anywhere either .... the GRiSO style is what attracted me first then the basic mech. design really appealed to me .... compared to the Commando and ST3 it appears to be more straight forward in it's upkeep .... then I start reading about performance and I just got to to have one .... took a while , but I'll have one on Tuesday ... pickup is 6hrs each way but I think well worth it Craig | |

| Along the same lines: There is an '09 GRiSO on ebay: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Wrote & asked if it had been upgraded. He wrote back & said according to the VIN a dealer assured him the upgrade was done. Am I correct that there was an early upgrade that just put in different flat tappets? Is it possible to know from the VIN ZGULSU0059M112102 if it has been rollerized? I know the only way to tell for sure is by opening it up. When I wrote back to confirm it had been upgraded to rollers & if he was willing to confirm it by opening it up he has not responded. Assuming it has not been rollerized & I would have to pay to have it done what is the max bid on this? | |

| Hi Red Dog .... if you read this whole thread , you know I was faced with similar dilemma .... the seller of the 1200 while a nice fellow had his Dealer check the recall list ... his answer to the roller question was this bike is not applicable to recall based on VIN # .... he ( the seller ) seemed reluctant to give me year of manufacture , so I moved on , found the 1100 version which just happened to be geographically closer and several thousand less dollars .... not as tricked out , but very clean .... when my fellow Ducati Club friend went to check on it , he said , you buy or I will .... for me I was not interested in getting into : was it roller or not over such a long distance .... I would have spent close to 2 thousand up and back , that was too big a gamble for me ... I think I will be very happy with the 1100 version and it's performance and reliability .... just 3 sleeps and I will know ... Craig | |

| bCraig Thanks.
Hope it works out & you get the 1100 nothing wrong with those engines.
The prices in the USA on both the 1100 & 1200 are coming down a lot & I've been bit by the GRiSO/Carc bug. I may have to let the Mille & the Jackal go to feed this addiction tho.

This will of been the initial swap from chilled cast iron to the forged steel with DLC coating upgrade. The change to roller tappets has never been a warranty item per se or a 'Technical Upgrade' which is the term usually used to wriggle out of a full blown recall. My guess is it is highly unlikely that this machine will of been rollerised but the only way to tell is to have a look under the rocker covers. If it hasn't then it will need it. To get Piaggio to supply the kit it will need a full service history. If you plan to do it off your own bat a 'C' kit, which is what it will require, will cost about $1,250US and installation time will probably be in the region of eight or nine hours if the job is done properly. Once you've done a few of them this time comes down a bit but most shops are still unfamiliar with the problem and the fix so bank on a high labour time. Pete

Pete Thanks again Pete, So depending on shop rate about $2000 to $2500 to fix, good to know when looking at them.

| First stupid question of many .... the online manual say : get bike vertical , to check oil level clean dip stick and replace but not to tighten .... I take that to mean to just push in dip stick to beginning of threads and then withdraw and have a look ... I've got the oil level about 3/4 up from min mark , is that about right ? thanks to any and all who will take the time to respond ... Craig | |

| About half way between the 'Full' and 'Add' marks is where you want it. Ride it for a while and check it regularly. It may drop a bit more but then it will stop. Treat that as your 'Full' mark. If you keep adding oil it will just get pumped out into the airbox and will clog the throttle bodies.
Once you've established its 'Happy Place' with the bike upright check the level on the side stand. Then you'll know where it sits and you don't have to do the silly juggling act getting the bike upright any more.

| Thanks to all for taking the time to respond ... I have a couple more 1. is the rear Rizoma plate light an after market mod 2. tires , came with BT023's lots of life , I have PR4's on Duc and like them any thoughts on Avon Storm , I like warranty offered 3. the inner plugs were $30 each and don't appear to be iridium , I run iridium in Duc and they are $17 each what gives 4. is Motul racing T10w60 syn. the engine oil I should be using 5. I ordered a K$N air filter for a Breva 1100 , will it fit in my bike 6. How do I change my profile from Grisoless 7. I got a GPR pipe with bike in a box should I put it on , what would be the results 8. so just pushing dip stick in till threads stop it is the way to check oil level 9. thanks Pete I was wondering if that method of oil level check would be okay Thanks again to all for your support and advice , did I mention I really like this bike and will probably never let it go .... from now on I will try and post questions in the correct section Craig | |
