| I ordered an oil filter (UNI) from AF1 racing and got the one that fits the pre-2015 Grisos.
I have since ordered the correct one but will it hurt anything to run with the older filter before I get the newer one? The older model sticks out about 1" below the sump.
Also, not sure how to replace the filter without replacing the oil. Could drain it and then dump it back in I suppose. Hate to throw away $75 worth of oil.
Also, any idea how much oil would come out if I just took off the filter? I assume at least 2 quarts may stay in the bottom of the sump.
Sorry for the stupid questions. I assume the older filter would probably be ok unless they changed the bypass pressure or something but thought I'd ask the experts.

| Older filter will work fine but will be vulnerable to damage if you gutter-jump or if it gets hit by road debris.
If you haven't drained the oil yet I'd just wait a couple more days for the correct filter to arrive, it won't hurt anything. If you have dropped the oil and refilled just whip the tall filter off quickly and install the correct one. Make sure the filter gasket comes off with the tall filter.
Yes, you'll loose some oil but better to just suck it up and top it up again than risking introducing contaminants to the sump by recycling the oil that comes out.
Don't forget to pre-fill the filter before installation.

| Thanks, I'll just get some more oil. I'd hate to drain and re-use the oil and chance dumping dirt in the engine. I did not fill the filter with oil prior to installing it, hope I didn't hurt anything. I'll make sure to do that the next time. Any thoughts on the Mahle filters? They say they have an " anti-empty valve for extra engine protection and higher oil pressure on startup". Although I have ordered the OEM B063428 filter and wrench. | Pre filling the filter is a good idea as it minimises the time the bearings run dry after an oil change. If you don't pre-fill it then the pump has to fill it before it can start delivering oil to where it's needed. On the 8V's in particular the amount of time this takes is long enough to trigger a fault code in the dash. While the short amount of time needed to fill the filter and start delivery isn't crisis worthy it's worth minimising it and pre-filling the filter takes zero effort. As for the claims for the anti drain-back valve on the Mahle? All modern filters have this but in our application it is moot as the filter is 'Upside Down' so it won't drain anywhere! Pete | |

| I got the OEM Guzzi filter yesterday and installed it this morning.
Removing the oil filter from a 2015 GRiSO while on it's side stand with a cold engine lets out almost zero oil.
That goes to show the importance of filling the filter with oil before putting it on when doing an oil change. I always assumed that after filling the crankcase with oil that it would make it's way into the filter. That is not the case.

| I have a 2017 that i just did the same thing on. Didn't realize it until I destroyed the old filter removing it. Glad there is a resource like the Ghetto to answer these questions! | |

| The Hi-Flow HF-565 will also work in this application too I believe. | |

| Pete, for the ol' 2V dungers with filter inside sump, is it worthwhile to remove spark plugs, attach to leads and earth on head, then spin motor over until the oil light goes out? |

| I just pre fill it and then spin it on to the inverted sump before quickly flipping it over and bolting it on but plugs out and spin is a more thorough solution. | |
