Seriously though, anyone put any thought into the idea of trying to making money with their bikes or do you just enjoy it for the leisure, sport or coffee runs?

Been on both sides of a similar situation. I lost many thousands (for me) in a loan w/contract to what I thought was a good and decent guy a few years ago never to be repaid a cent nor see the fucker again. I would imagine he had a number of people in his life who still have good relations with him. The resulting feelings never really go away completely and I'd make his life miserable every day to put it kindly until I was repaid if I could.

On the flip side I have had two good experiences buying items from Todd.

the guy offers a money back guarantee on all his products.. not to mention his tech support is second to NONE. there's really no reason for anyone to be that upset about his contributions to the community. i for one am extremely happy with his work.
also, i think it's worth mentioning that every respectable euro tuner is doing the exact same thing Todd is doing in america for these engines. opening up the exhaust, and intake and letting them breathe, and then matching the a/f ratio to said mods. no one in europe is complaining about how their bikes run with free-flowing exhaust or intakes.
look at ghezzi-brian, daes mototec, or even ipothesys. they're all offering wide open exhaust systems and intake mods.
if what he's doing is really that bad, people worldwide would be complaining how their bikes ran like shit after getting rid of the mid-pipe or end can for a more free flowing design. same goes for the intake. companies like that wouldn't be around if they were ruining engines for people.

I too have had some dealings with Todd, while I haven't been ripped off he certainly doesn't appreciate any mention on his forum, of this forum.
Try it, he will delete the post immediately.
And if you tell another member of this here forum via PM, it isn't private, Todd will contact you and tell you off in very harsh words.

Neither do the Europeans who are opening up the intake and exhaust and calling it a 'performance mod'. Sure, you can increase the fuel and fiddle with the maps to make them run OK. I'm sure I could do that even with that poxy Ipothesys. One of them (Daes I think) replaces the GI with carbs. That old gem, 'carbs are better'. Snicker. Performance? No. Poor VE? Yep.

Really? I was never refunded a cent, parts didn't arrive, the parts that did arrive didn't fit and didn't work. I sent him a very expensive set of supposedly super-dooper European camshafts and tappets to use with it. They were never used, the exhaust pipe I bought from him was a disaster, didn't fit and destroyed the bike's performance.

Look, I really don't care if people want to waste their money on junk spruiked by a charlatan but I won't encourage people to deal with someone who has no qualifications, little mechanical knowledge and to whom the laws of physics are a closed book.

I couldn't give a shit if Ghezzi Brian, Motec or Ipothesys sell a 'One size fits nothing', poorly thought out but convincingly presented theory of what will *Work* with the Guzzi engine. Not all engines are the same, they pump differently and the parameters that govern their VE are all different. And THAT my friends is the crux of the matter. It has nothing to do with 'Letting it breathe and getting the AFR right' if the harmonics of the induction and exhaust tracts aren't matched to the head design, valve sizes, port shape, cam timing and probably a few other things I can't be bothered listing the VE is going to be well below optimal, especially at certain points in the engines load and speed cycles. Sorry. Basic engineering and the laws of physics. Not rocket science.

So your biggest problem, the way I see it, is you resent Todd because he blocks mention of your maps and this forum on his buisness's site because you give away FREE maps for the GRiSO and other late model Guzzis. He sells performance related products that you KNOW are a joke in your learned experience, and point that out all the time.

Point of information. Not everyone cares about what's best/optimal average tuning for their bike. Some folks want BIG, BAD, LOUD bikes and don't give a rat's ass about anything other than bragging rights and $$$ they have spent.

I've seen this happen in the industry I work in and seen folks copy designs and circuits and dilute the market to the point that the original engineer couldn't make a living. That's just wrong.

(Scratching head?) Why is it that the default description for anything non-commercial seems to be an accusation of 'Socialism'?

The problem I have is that a lot of this stuff is BAD ENGINEERING and in some cases downright dangerous as well as the results sometimes being horribly expensive. It also give the marque a bad name. I have a long, long history with Guzzi. Probably longer than Todd has been alive! I don't like people dissing Guzzi for stuff that isn't their fault. Good lord, they're quite capable of destroying their own reputation, they need no help!

Yes, I fully understand that there are people who want the loudest, most expensively *Improved* motorbike and the fact it runs worse than it did before they started spending money doesn't matter to them. I think it's weird but I know it's out there. I just get really pissed off that people who spruiked this stuff claim it works better. It doesn't, really, it doesn't.

We'll build a big bore GRiSO using OUR tuning practices and publish the results.

We know that cunts with no idea will say anything to prove that our engine is shit or could be improved by 'Opening it up' but we'll at least be honest.

I thought of posting up a dyno chart from a TV-4 and claiming it was from a GRiSO. Any bloody GRiSO. Just to see heads explode. Unfortunately I don't do that, at least not without giving it away a few minutes later as it would be great fun.

We aren't promising huge power, as I've said many times before without major cam changes you won't alter the way the engine breathes and if you were to get a huge, (Read more than 10%.) increase in outright power you will be making major sacrifices elsewhere in the range of both RPM AND throttle angle, (How often do you ride at WFO at any engine speed?). I do believe though that we will build something that would make an imbecile weep under 'Road' conditions.

Sure we sacrifice the extra plug and intake plenum but we gain a shitload more throttle area. From 4,000 up it should be a monster!
