| The oil pressure switch on my 2011 failed and blew oil all over the left side of the bike. My GRiSO has 10,700 miles on the clock. I guess the to plastic part must have cracked.
Are the replacement parts hard to come by? It seems like they are our if stock at some of the usual places in the US. There are 2 versions too. Stupid part has my only motorbike out of service. :-(

| The early type has been discontinued, the BMW part will almost certainly work or you can purchase the later the and the adaptor to fit it. They're all pretty cheesy.

| Trevor, we are all bent to some degree, so a straight conversation like this is normal... | |

| Thanks for all the good feedback lads, I don't mind twists and turns in the thread as I just put all the information in to that old saucepan of mine and give it a good stir and you generally get the right soup. As it happened I went out and started the bike this morning and the faults had cleared The new switch should arrive in the next few days but we have a trip to the Ulster GP road race planned for Friday so I will leave it until I get a chance in the next couple of weeks. | |

| I've been pondering that. I hope not because if it is then I'll probably do another set of big ends. Only way to know though is to try it! I don't have X-Ray eyes or a magic wand so in situations like this I have to rely on experience and intuition. If I have got it wrong though others will learn from my mistakes and that is a good thing.

| I had the same fault on the way home when i bought my bike, took off the rocker covers to have a look oil was good made a mess ,it turned out to be the oil pressure switch cable shorting out on the cylinder cooling fins only when hot, took a while to find the fault and I sorted it out with some shrink tubing. mike | |

Pete Hey Pete - I'm not sure if this will be any assistance but we'll see - My understanding is you suspect your flat tappets have failed and steel debris may have caused secondary damage to the bottom end. I have heard of rare earth, extreme strength magnets being positioned on the steel wall of the oil filter cartridge. The effect is to over time, extract all the steel particles that would otherwise continue to circulate through the filter and oil volume. I haven't done any research or trials / dissections of oil filter cartridges with these magnets in place. Do you have any before and after data on your oil pressure to confirm the big end is done ?

| No need, I recognised the noise and went in. Yes, they be fucked. I don't actually think it was particulate, I think it was oil starvation. Why? No idea. I suspect the fact I was doing all together too many wheelies just before I did the big ends. And now I've blown some fork seals. See a pattern? Stupid reaps its own reward..... | |

Stupid reaps its own reward..... Pattern - what pattern - definitely seeing a little healthy exuberance and maybe some FTLOY-IDC (Fuck The Lot Of Yers - I Don't Care) Hell of a way to save wear on front tyres though For the non-wheelie folk though who may be at risk due to progressive tappet failure, do you think it could be useful to provide a high strength magnet, or a series of them, to also pull larger steel fragments out of the oil BEFORE they go through the pump
