This is what the manual says, change em once a year. Is this what everyone does? Or is it a conspiracy to sell expensive plugs? My other bikes had the plugs up to 10K miles and they looked fine. Does the GRiSO wear them out faster?

No. Nor is there any need to use the platinum plugs suggested for the early models. Unless they give you grief they'll go a lot longer. Most cars nowadays have 50,000 mile plug change intervals. A higher revving engine like the GRiSO, (Well, higher than most cars.) will wear 'em out slightly quicker but yearly or 10,000 changes are a bit of overkill, as is swapping the brake lines every three years and that is suggested too for some reason???

Perhaps they get a cut from the companies that make these..
Must be some extra picky tech in the background somewhere..

The NGK Iridium plugs are a fine - CR8EIX (4218), and less expensive, substitute for the NGK Platinum long-life series. I generally swap mine out every other fluid/valve adjustment/TB balance interval - or every 12,500 miles, but I do inspect them at every interval (6250 miles) when adjusting the valves.

I use the Iridium as well and plan to leave it there until I get to the 30K miles mark or so...

Mine are 20k km (12.5k miles) / 5 years.
I pulled the spark plugs of a 30k km (19k miles) Stelvio recently, stilling running on the plugs from the factory. Those NGK PMR8B has no obvious wear to my naked eyes as well as the gap gauge.

What plugs should I use for a GRiSO 1100 from 2007? I'm a bit lost with all these different types of plugs with different electrodes etc...

I like stock, outer--NGK BPR6ES inner---NGK PNR8B If you haven't done the inside plugs, may be rusty & full of crud in the well. Blow out after cracking them loose.

The inner plugs will rust and gather crud as others have said. Might be worth a very light coat of neverseize or similar on the threads to assist in removal "next time". I had my originals in for over 60,000 km - they were still good but I replaced them because of rust.

it might be worth noting the inner will need a thin wall socket also

Funny, the spare part catalog for the 1100 gives the PNR8B as you wrote it but I can't find them online. Closest match is PMR8B. Is that a typo in the spare catalog?
