High Idle speed Empty
PostSubject: High Idle speed   High Idle speed Icon_minitime1Fri Nov 28, 2014 12:55 pm

Hi - my pre owned GRiSO has had a few journeys (4 in fact) in the back of a breakdown truck due to the fuel filter parting company from the fuel pump. So I have replaced the filter, changed the pipe work, and now the filter is strapped to the fuel pump. And what a difference. It's like having a new, quicker and faster bike.
Anyway the problem is that at idle the engine is running around 1500 rpm which means a lot of clutch work in slow traffic. I have reset the TPS and checked the throttle cables for pinches/snags/sticking and they seem fine.
If the bike had old fashioned carbs you could just turn down the idle speed.
So does anyone have any suggestions?

When were the throttle bodies last balanced?

A couple of suggestions.

1. Check the throttle stop screw hasn't been messed with.

2. Balance the TB's and make sure only ONE air bleed is open, (Neither is fine if the low speed balance is spot on but both is wrong.).

3. remove and thoroughly clean the TB's. Especially if the previous owner was anal about keeping the oil at the 'Full' mark on the stick it will of been constantly expelling oil and the TB's will be encrusted with crap.

Pete

PS. When you replaced the fuel hose did you use fully submersible hose? If not your problem will simply recurr.

Hi Pete, Beetle,
Thanks for your advise.
TBs have been cleaned and balanced, and the problem has gone away.
Now I may be to blame for topping up the oil as it's a mystery to work out the min and max levels with a black dipstick and when the bike is on it's side stand and ever since I had an engine seize on me I am a bit paranoid.
As for the pipe work I reused the long pipe and replaced the short section with a new mod kit MG supplied on the recall so the long tube goes from the pump to the filter and the short from the filter to the injectors - so they should be fine.

Ps I have guzzidiag ver .44 and it seems the option to reset the TPS has disappeared or am I going blind?

Engine stopped drop down in actors, you should find it there.
