Subject: 12013 GRiSO 8V Engine Swap to 2008 1200 Sport Thu Oct 10, 2024 12:42 pm
I have a 2013 GRiSO 8V with the roller cams so I'm good there. My question to the forum is this. I have an opportunity to by back my 2008 Breva 1200 Sport that has the 2V per head pushrod engine. Can the GRiSO 8V engine fit in the Sport chassis and if so can it be done with just good hand tools ? And what about tuning and the electrical aspects including ECU swap ?

While I think it can be done easily enough you ma have to tap a few threads on the engine case of the 8V and there are other things you’ll need besides the motor.
Both the clutch assembly and the gearbox are different between the 2V PC engine and the 4V PC. You will also need the larger 50mm throttlebodies and the airbox trumpets to fit them. Mapping of course will need to be changed.
It’s been done before. I know that. But I’ve never done it myself.

Sounds like a fun yet challenging project. I've always liked the Breva Sport stance. It looks very comfortable.

Thanks for the feedback Pete, et al. I really liked my Sport. It fit me well, is very comfortable and handled great. The original owner had the front and rear suspension done by Traxxion Dynamics. It was just under powered for me.

Jim Hamlin has made that swap. I don’t recall the name of his shop on the east cost but he could give you some guidance.

You could always chase down an A7 motor, which was fitted to the Quattro Valvole Sport. There must be one at a wreckers. Just make sure it is either low kilometres or been rollerised before you commit. Should go straight in.
The earlier A2 motor can also be worked into a sufficient state with a Beetle Map installed and a more open exhaust (the 2 valve per cylinder engine) - I have one...
