Subject: Fuel level sensor not working Wed Sep 04, 2024 10:23 am
Hi, my fuel sensor stopped working last week, so i removed the tank and fuel pump during the weekend. When measuring the sensor I got none resistance, it should be between 250 - 300 Ohm when the tank is empty. So it's probably broken. I have tried to find a replacement, I found one from TLM in the Netherlands that cost 250 euro. Does anyone here know about a replacement or any other way to replace it? I found this at ebay, Fuel Reserve Sensor Moto Guzzi GRiSO 1100 05-08 It's not loking the same as the original one, but would it be possible to zip tie it at the same place on the rod that the original one fitted to? Another question, I measured the pin 3 and 4 where the sensor is connected, I get 12 Volt there, is that correct?

It’s just a simple thermistor available on eBay for pennies.
See Link
This is just one example, there are lots of cheaper ones as well.

Ok, so I just have to put it at the same height as the original one then?

I got the one in the link you added, didn't think about reading the specs. for it. But I got it today and thought that I should measure the resistance, the resisteance is around 1400 Ohm. So I checked in the service station manual, there it says that when the tank is empty it should be 250 - 300 Ohm. So I checked the specs in the link more thoroughly, and there it says, "It has a room temperature resistance of approximately 1 - 2K Ohms. " Will it still work, or do I have to search for another one with a resistance of 250 - 300 Ohm?

Look for one with the correct specs.
The link in your first post claims it will work. Why not try it?

I've been thinking a bit during the night about this. In the service manual it says "when the tank is empty it should be 250 - 300 Ohm" That probably means that there should be 12 V when measuring the resistance. From what I understand about thermistors is that they warms up and then the resistance changes. So the resistance when not connected to 12 V doesn't matter. So I think that I will do as Beetle suggested and just try it

I measured a thermistor on an old fuel pump from my GRiSO 1100 and it’s 1600 ohms at room temperature.
New ones (Part 887790) are expensive, over 200 Euros from TLM Nijmegen (Link).

Thank you for measuring, feels like the 1400 Ohm I got should work then. The 250 -300 Ohm stated in the service manual is probably when it’s connected to 12 V. I saw the price at TLM when I was searching for a replacement, and 250 Euros for a thermistor is really expensive.

To be honest I really can’t see there being much variance in parts like this. They’re likely to be pretty standard throughout the industry. Fling it in. I’m betting it will work just fine.

Just for grins, I measured the one on my spare pump. 2700 ohms @ ~18 degrees C.

Today I changed the low fuel sensor, and it worked as it should. Hopefully it will disappear when I fuel her up But the sensor wasn't faulty, I took it apart and the lower leg of the sensor had been broken off. So when I measured the reading was 2500 Ohms at 10 degrees C. Thank you all for all the helpfull writings
