Leaking fuel!!

Hi All,

Had a bit of an incident last week.
Filled up with fuel and didn't close the cap properly!
A few yards up the road and I can smell petrol.....looked down to see to my horror fuel spraying all over and down the tank and all over the inside of the fly screen ect ect, Nightmare!!!
I stopped and wiped as much off as I could, got back home a washed the bike down with soapy water .
Now, days later I can still smell petrol from around the filler cap area, has fuel seeped into an area it shouldn't be,surely it would have evaporated by now?

I would be grateful for any comments.

It may be that the drain hose that comes off a nipple at the back of the tank on the 8V or underneath the tank on the 1100 that drains the cap area has cone off or got kinked and you could have some fuel pooled or stuck in the drain hose or the like. I wouldn't worry unduly, go for a good flog and get the engine hot, any remaining will evaporate over a couple of rides.

I get a bit worried when I get a strong wiff of fuel...I've seen the damage it can cause when things go wrong!
I'll check out the state of the drain hose to see if it's doing the job OK.
