I think one of my cams has cried 'Uncle'. No doubt this will cause great glee to those who know better than me.

Interestingly I spent a fair amount of time this winter deliberately not getting my oil hot and doing the stuff I reckon causes failures. I won't know until I pull the camboxes, I may be being paranoid. We'll see.

Lol, fair play Pete. But I would still rather take your word on a matter than many a "mechanic" that I have spoken to in local workshops. Will be interested to hear how things go.

All the best

Actually I was lying abed last night pondering this. And there's a dead easy way to check, just hook up the TB balance tool I have, that'll immediately show if there's a cam problem. The odd thing is that there seems to be no loss of performance or increase in mechanical noise, (The latter is hard to pick though as my bike is so bloody noisy at the best of times!Very Happy). What makes me suspect the tappets might be going is it occasionally spits back at idle and occasionally drops a cylinder for a few revolutions.

Thinking about it it could simply be a fouled plug. The map I have in has a glitch where its too rich between 40 and 60*C. Mark has corrected this but I haven't had the time to upload the corrected map yet, (Sometime this morning I hope.). It may just be that I have carboned up a plug insulator, maybe one of my plug boots has started arcing although I can't see why it would?

Anyway, I'll warm it up, stick my Vacuum-mate on it and see what it says about both static and dynamic draw and if that all looks good I'll fling the corrected map and a couple of new plugs at it and see if that gets its shit a-shakin again. If the Vacuum-mate sez 'You're fucked boy-oh!' Then I suppose I'll have to put my roller kit in. (grizzle, moan, whinge.....!)

Darndest thing use to happened to my Cali and now also the Bellagio.
It would occasionally spit back thru the inlet with a cough and fart, mainly just off idle. Severity and frequency would increase over time.

The hose clamps on the manifold rubbers both sides of the throttle body would need a tweak.

Don't know if its rubber shrinkage or vibrating screws, but tightening always cures the problem.

Put it this way Pete, if you have to change to the roller option, you can then at least say you have done it - no longer theory - you should be happy with that I would think...

Yeah, I've been actively trying to get mine to lunch itself. Short trips, cold weather, wet riding. Well it seems I was wrong, again! TB balance was off a smidge but nothing serious. Got a couple of turns out of the intake clamps but I don't think they were leaking. Dynamic test shows both cylinders pumping identically. (Shrug?)

Time to worry less and ride more I guess......

Is 115* high? 'Cause after my post-map install ride, GuzziDiag said my bike was at 123*

I head mine briefly up to 140*C on a hot day in Sydney, stuck in traffic in the M5 tunnel. That was an, errr??? *Entertaining* trip. I was on my way up North for some reason and was leathered up into the bargain. I reckon I sweated off about ten Kg before I got to the city. Can't remember why I chose to go right through the middle? Bloody silly idea anyway! Just dumb as dogshit I suppose! Very Happy

If you ever need a quick way across Sydney, Pete (north to south or visa versa) give me a hoy and I'll map it for you - or at least try to. No tunnels, no tollways, few red light cameras, no speed cameras (last time I looked). Depending on time of day, not too congested just a bit wiggley...

Thanks Tony. To be honest I fucking hate the place. Everyone who lives overseas just sees the harbour and city and all the pretty stuff. Problem is that isn't *Sydney* which is a filthy, stinking wen chock full of angry idiots. If I had any choice I'd never go there again.

I have to occasionally go to Millpera to go to the imported and sometimes when Jude has to go to Sydney for work I'll go up and spend the night with her but other than that? If I'm heeding North I'll go inland through Bathurst! Great roads to Bathurst! And then cut inland through the flatlands. No challenge in the roads but I like the flatlands, they have a stunning beauty all their own. Big Sky. I like.

Cool Pete - offer still stands for all - I too hate going across Sydney but to avoid it is 3 times longer. Fortunately I work in the "Shire", so it's a good commute from downtown Thirroul with little traffic congestion.

Problem is I now feel I have to avoid the Royal National Park due to the latest efforts of the gubberment fundraisers (yeah they got me, but I did get to keep my licence). With Beetle's map the hurry handle needs to be wrung - not Beetle's fault though, all responsibility is mine, but I just love it, in any gear from 2000rpm to redline, pulls like the proverbial 15 year old...

Need to behave myself - boy is that hard!

Come Christmas this year I think my licence will be a cleanskin again! Fucking miracle! Problem with bloody Beetlemaps is that they make cruising fast very, very hard to avoid. The speed just keeps climbing. Its one of the reasons I still want to, (When time allows!) explore a cruise control. I'll take the points hit and the fine of I'm having fun but loosing three for 15 over the limit in the middle of the desert on a dead straight road? Bugger that, I'll happily drone.......

Remember, our illustrious RMS keep your (mine too) transgressions on file for 40 months - despite the rumour of 36 months. They do this in case you sin when you think you have a cleanskin licence so they can give evidence against you in court, should the matter arrive there. Aim is to punish you hard should you get a feel for one of Beetle's maps - communist plot, I reckon.

Take it easy for another 4 months Pete. You can ring the RMS and ask them, I did, that's how I know the numbers - I thought mine was clean but the self service portal still had them listed, I rang and was duly educated as to the lay of the land. Bummer! Got it all clean some years back but busted my (up until then) perfect record on a bike in March this year.

Mr Plod and I came to a mutual agreement of "20 over", which I accepted. Reality should have been walk home from National Park and no riding/driving for a while, well quite a while actually. His radar was reading a little lower than my reality, thanks heavens.

Up here the Gestapo keep records for ever, well since 'puta's were invented. In a recent disagreement the SS gave me access to my previous record which they were intending to present.
I just laughed, they only had 2 out of 8 suspensions (& corresponding individual fines) listed.

I think the other 6 suspensions (& full history) are recorded on stone tablets. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Break them tablets real quick, Wayne. they may even turn up as "historic artifacts" in future centuries.

This is one reason I enjoy the CB1100 so much; it encourages a more relaxed ride (this effect is wearing off a bit though) compared to the GRiSO. The latest map has seemed to dialed back in some beans so the GRiSO is acting a bit more puckish again.

You know, it's not unlike comparing a big radial engine fighter (Corsair F4U) to a Merlin (Mustang). Radials just get up and go without much fuss. Inlines like to sound like they have to make an effort.

So if I feel like a nut; it's best I ride the CB. Chances for trouble are less. Smile
