I am getting a bit tired of the black colour of my old GRiSO. A new painting job will cost around 2000 CA$, which is too much (imho) for just a fancy colour change. Then I found out about vinyl wrap, and that comes with some pros and some cons. One advantage is that it is cheaper, but only as long as you do it yourself. Watched a few YT videos and am not sure if I can make it look good. Especially the tank seems hard (in particular the deep valley at the front, where our key resides). Of course, an other advantage is that if it fails, I just take the torn or bubbled wrap off again and continue to live with black.
Anybody here has done this, and can give advise regarding potential pitfalls? Can you show the result? What type of wrap is best? Brands? Special tools? Fancy designs?

Yep. My GRiSO was black, now it's orange. It's a wrap. Cost me !750 Ostralian Gofars. 3M Wrap. I got Tenni stripes. I did the fairing myself.
You'll need to remove the mesh inserts from the wings. If I were to do it again, I might have a go myself. You need a heat gun, a very sharp scalpel, and the patience of a saint.

That looks hot, Mark! And it looks like it's holding up nicely.

Thanks all. Your bike looks spectacular, Beetle. And I am impressed that it lasted 30,000 kms!
I think I will buy a piece of vinyl and try it out on the relatively easy front fender. If all goes well, great. Up to the side panels. If it is beyond my level, I will just take it off again.
Now which colour shall I get...

I tried it once, using my old dash cover as a test case (maybe not the easiest shape to try). I threw away the vinyl wrap in a rage after hours of frustration. I think you need the patience of a saint and some genetic built-in skills to make it work.

i guess you did select the wrong piece. i wanted to put vinyl on dash and front head light and the professional guy (actually two) told me to paint it. they said it is just too small with too many angles
