Thanks all. We're currently in Broken Hill, not far from where the second 'Mad Max' film was shot way back when. Spent the last two nights at an old mining town called Burra right on the Goyder line in South Australia. Stark, beautiful and unforgiving country but one of my favourite areas in Oz.
That tiny car will carry an astonishing amount of wine and horseradish!
Oh. The Goyder line is a geographical divider that indicated the limit of reliably cultivatable land in South Australia. Once north of the line, while some of the land can carry stock or grow a crop in some years it can't be relied on due to the sparsity of rain. Once we left Burra on the 340km stretch to Broken Hill the land soon turned to desert scrub with patches of weedy saltbush. Little can live out there but a few hardy 'Roos in a good year, emus and snakes. One presumes there are smaller critters for the snakes to snack on as they are out here in abundance!
